this is a two part question, for both listeners and producers alike:

1) what artists/songs/sounds/instruments do you find really mess with your head (in that deliciously good trippy way)... is it lush reverbs and slower grooves, do you really dig soaring acid riffs after a long build up of atonal chaos? etc.

and of course, 2) what do YOU like to put into your tunes to make them psychedelic? what are some tricks you put into your tunes for bending the brains of the audience?

i've seen similar threads before but it's always a good topic... i spent most of last night dancing to rather boring djs playing a lot of 'psytrance' that really didn't give anything for the mind to play with. loads of riffs, glitchiness, but the vibe felt more like... hard trance with syncopated basslines? a big turn-off after some incredible mind-bending psychedelia at festivals this summer.

lol, see, not the artist glosolalia, but actual speaking in tongues... that's something that can be used to great effect. simon p likes doing a lot of it... random vocal warblewagglagbgalagalablarowmpupalabda type shit.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

Arpeggiated 303's are teh sex, no doubt
A good and powerful Fullon bassline makes my brain twitch
So does reverse kicks and Squeaky squeal sounds
i love those, therefore i always find a way to squeeze them in.

Time stretched and pitch bended quotes that has been messed up with vocoders appear to me as really trippy but i chose not to use it since they rarely fit in for some reason.

Comfortable female voices saying words like "High/fly/soar and so on also are funky, with some panning delay.

It might not be trippy or very psychedelic, but ethnic instruments like Toms are very cool.

And just to answer most of the questions; DNA, Electro Sun and Holymen are the shizzle.           http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

The two breakdowns in this track are ridiculous:

The first one has the really dirty acid line and pure 909 drum madness

the second one has the bassline and awesome filter sweep. Can't help but grind my teeth even if I'm sober!

This track is absolutely mind-destroying, starting from 2:40 or so

i like blip and blurp dunno how to call them, synth sfx... specially in the old school tracks , then on top of that some acidic leads .

a bit that kind of stuff like in this track , it s the style that is the more effective for my brain ,oldschool underground stuff

1) I love heavy night time full power psychedelia a.k.a. darkpsy. I love acid/machine/metallic/etc. leads, that at first you think sound absolutely chaotic, but when you start digging in, you find out a huge sum of melodies that interlace with each other, backed up by a constantly evolving/changing atmospheres and uniquely woven percussion lines, that add a strange and weird groove.

2) I don't think there is a straight answer to this question, cuz every track is different and I try to use different things in each one. I love experimenting, thou, with stuff one wouldn't normally experiment!           Triplag Music
