Purely in the ear of the beholder. For me I find the sounds that can be created with a computer much more enhancing to the psychedelic experience than even really trippy instrumental stuff, with the noteable exception of some eastern music and pink floyd (Dark Side of the Moon, which probably used a lot of electronic processing/layering, not sure). For me psychedelia is most in the timbre of the sounds used, and computers offer a wider range. Eastern instruments like the sitar in particular seem to hit on whatever sonic properties underly the weird synergy between certain sounds and psychedelics.
That said, Im sure psy people who choose to listen to psy rock do so because they find it most trippy.

i like both but something about certain psychedelic rock gets me. for me it has been the disco biscuits & phish. they are what brought me into the psychedelic part of music and into a world of it.
simon posford recently came out to play a festival with the disco biscuits and it was perfect!!! best of both psychedelic worlds!
i LOVE a good exploration in a jam that is created in front of me and it gets me going easier than most of the psytrance out there. ill follow that sound anywhere. i find that i like the personal nature of it all a lot and it brings deeper meaning into my trips.

pesonally i think that psytrance is the direct continuation for the psy rock.
it statred with bands like the doors & the early pink floyd's as an alternative to the boring & commercial popolistic life which started about that time, strongly related to the illusinatives (mainly LSD) expanding use.
personaly Im staying with the cllasics:
The doors - The doors
Pink floyd - The piper at the gates of dawn
Ummaguma
Meddle
Jefferson airplain - Surialistic pillow
Ozric tentacles - Tentric objects

it depends on your definition of psychedelic..
personally i find eastern european and gypsy music to be very psychedelic - frantic emotive melodies
classical music is psychedelic in many regards too , it has a changing (and often epic) storyline, similar to the early psychedelic/old goa trance music |

i am sorry but real psychedelic music is an art made my musicians and not some monkey on a computer. dont get me wrong....i listen to psytrance and psybient all the time. but the entire electronic psychedelic scene is designed to be enjoyed under the consumption of drugs and to dance to. again dont get me wrong i take drugs and i listen to psybient at home alone...but those are the facts. psychedelic bands such as pink floyd, the doors, jefferson airplane, velvet underground etc are the pioneers and creators of psychedelic music where drugs can be taken to enjoy it further but it is still fairly enjoyable without drugs if you truly enjoy psychedelic music. now the music industry is changed completely and bands dont make their money through selling albums (due to the internet) but through tours and merchandise etc. my personal opinion...the music industry is fucking shit at the moment.
a computer software is NOT a fucking instrument...that is a direct insult to real musicians. there are artists that have a perfect balance between psychedelic instrumental and electronic. Pink Floyd themeselves did it decades ago and Shpongle (Raja Ram and Simon Posford) are doing it now. |

first of all, congratulations on necroing a thread from 5 years ago.
Second, it may be your OPINION that the 'entire electronic psychedelic scene' is designed for something, but those are definitely not facts. At all.
Thirdly, your point about the music industry changing completely has fuckall to do with the rest of your post.
So basically, you come into isratrance, create an account, and the very first thing you do is necro a thread that no one cares about and rant a bunch of shit and say that its undeniable fact?
Good job.

lol put the doors side by side with psykovsky.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
or jimi hendrix side by side with khopat.........................................................................................................................................................................................
in my honest opinion... and mby cuz i listen more to trance in partys(high in the sky xD) then rock or etnic music... instrumental psychedelic music such as the doors, jimi, jefferson airplane,(yeh, 60s rock) can twist ur mind a lot more then psychadelic trance music...
buuut with psytrance music, u can groove and dance more to it....
thats my point of view....
imagine a free party in your homeland.. (with lsd)
imagine a crazy instrumental tribal/experimental band in a beach somewhere (with lsd)
i think the tribal music will get u farther.... in terms of perceptions and thoughs...
but the trance music will make u feel better... dunno how to explain very well..
the thing is.. psychadelics....... are psychadelics ahah
  I want a spare brain.... or 2. |

I prefer electronic, i find it to give more abilities to shape sound, more ways of creating soundswaves and i usually like the overall sound , the organic thing has been made before, lets emerge with the future and create something new.Allthough organic sounds can be nice sometimes, sure, but i often find it boring and like something i have heard many times before. So my vote goes for electronic : )
