Greetings Aliens...

I was recently asked by my friend who studies social sciences to suggest a relatively new social MovementCulture which has a global reach on which she should be writing a thesis.. I suggested the Psychedelic Culture(of Course!)

I was trying to dig up any articles(for dummies) i could find on the same.. Yes i did a search out here and couldnt come up with the right kind of material though i do remember reading a lot of posts/material on it here sometime back...

Apart from the usual Wikipedia stuff.. If anybody has links/access to good articles.. I would be thankful if you could post the same...

Mods : I know this doesnt fall under Trance but thought i would get more replies here... Move to a relevant section if deemed necessary..

Cheers

PS : I am talkin about the Culture not music necessarily....

you don't need articles to explain psyculture.
psyculture is about being true and knowing yourself and getting rid of fake
if you really know psyculture explain it yourself your way truly.
articles will talk about hippies, drugs and all crap.
tell them which has not been seen by anyone.
i might be wrong also. some topics might have covered wat i'm talking about.

Errrr.... No... cuz we are talking about somebody's thesis here and not just one person's opinion about the culture.

Dear Transcendentalist,

I think what your friend needs to do is:

1- going through encyclopedia information and some good articles, regarding the music, how, where, when it originated, and the changes it's gone through and different generations ....that obviously these info are required for the introduction.

2- Then she needs to check some cross-cultural articles on the music, so she moves to the cultural related section. Including counties which have psy-trance music (as this music is not popular in every country), the differences and similarities of the music and scene in these countries

3- Now that she has pictured the main structure, she needs to get into details about changes and movement in different countries and in general, and for that the best way is preparing one Questionnaire for psytrance-fans and one Questionnaire for psytrance artists from different countries about the scene.
For preparing such a feedback form definitely she needs some help from you maybe
It's not an easy job but I think it can help the most if she collects ideas of both artists and fans from different countries and then start writing about it.

I don't know if it's a Graduate's thesis or a post-graduate's one. But if it's for her masters, I suggest she spends more time on the survey from people specially from Older artists who have been there through all these changes.

And I think if she can pm the Questionnaire through isra to our dear artists, most of them will be happy to help

This was only my personal opinion about how she can start, and I hope it will be helpful

Thanks for all the replies people...

@Allegoric - I have explained it in whatever way i can... But i am sure there are more eloquent and academically more qualified people who must have written about it. Searching for the same..

@Psysnoopy - I like the idea of the questionnaire... Not a bad idea at all. BUt there is a larger issue which i am addressing after individual replies

@MissFryd - I'll ping/buzz ya up. I wouldnt mind hearing Terence Mckenna All over myself again. The Haight Asbury is one new thing i learnt today Tx!

@CRX - Tx for the link.

Folks,

There has been one common thing among us psyheads. We tend to consider psychedelic Trance and the culture as "The Psychedelic Culture"... which i think is not entirely correct. True there is a lot of common factors, but psychedelia is something which can be totally disconnected from the psytrance scene. Some of the most psychedelic people i know havent even heard a 140 bpm track before but in my books they would qualify right up there. I would appreciate more Mckenna, Huxley kind of research links if you have any... Do let me know your thoughts on the same...

**Jaded Raver Bickering**

I'd like to conduct a survey at the next big (+500) people psy party i go for and ask everyone at the gate as to how many of them know Mckenna.. If 50% answers yes... I'd be a very Happy Person..

Most scholarly article searches will turn up a few entries specifically concerned with psychedelic trance... in fact, in my own research, I was pleasantly surprised to find some academic writing based on sociological surveys of Isratrance members, for example. Every now and then someone drops in to request some help with a project--well, turns out something actually comes of it. A quick look on Google Scholar turns up one such instance:

Of course, most casual visitors will need to pay for access... not so for some of us current university students though
