Is there such a thing as a psychedelic batucada?

I play in a batucada here in New Zealand (www.batucada.org.nz) - just curious if ones been heard of .. or even some lovely DJ's that mish mash both styles together. Would love to hear some ...

Random thoughts from an a Agogo Player.

I don't really think that exist such style of psychedelic batucada as a genre

thought that may have one or two djs that mixes certain percussive songs during his/her sets

I have seen Jeppe Oarkind from Phonny Orphants delivers us great mixes between samba and progresive trance inna party ( moonflower ) last year..real fun

But I don't know any particular brazilian dj that do this as particular style in the psy community...we have a lot of then in the tribal house and others house styles..and they are really good

besides the dancefloor we have great chill projects that have eletronic donwbeat mixed with percussive drums and didgeridoos like pedra branca, liquidus ambiento and others..

I'm part of one raising group ( in fact a study group) of this kind of music, we are trying to make some fusion between the regional northeast music of our country and some experiments with synths, e-beats and fx's...for play live in chillouts... reeeeal fun !!!!

i was looking at you homepage and must desagree with some points there, maracatu for example have few things in common with Rio's samba the maracatu is into more deep and roots manifestations of our culture been the gathering of the indians, african and european cultures get togheter in a symbological and even religious way..guess you can understand

Hey man really nice that you play agogos, wicked instrument that in varios regional styles has a big importance, in "tambor de mina" for example the agogo is the bigshot and lead all others instruments being the principal guide, i play agogos too and ganzas, zabumba, alfaia...

ahh i was forgeting, my study group band are available for bookings we are very happy and ansious to show our work...

cheers

here in argentina this have been tried with good and bad results

murray a local dj from buenos aires always wanted to do this, he tried it with one drummer and once with a whole group, when the track and the drummers got in synch it was nice, but when they didnt it there was a huge mismatch between the track and what they played.

anyways after 2 hours of this, it got boring, but i guess that with enough practice it could be interesting. but its definitely not my cup of tea.           Psychedelic Trance from Argentina

wanka tanka: thanks for the points about maracatu - I'll pass it onto the peeps who fiddle with the website have ya got a website with your groups details?
Our group is moving towards more drum'n'bass styles .. cool - but I'm getting bored of that plus most other groups in NZ are leaning the same way ..
