There's a distinction between a trippy movie and a psychedelic movie, but that seems lost on many here. Sure a movie like Snatch is trippy, is it psychedelic ? No. Also a movie that makes you think about some relevant issues is not a necessarilly a psychedelic movie : 21 Grams? Psychedelic? Common. There are movies that can freak you out but are not psychedelic... I mean someone actually proposed SAW as a psychedelic movie... And finally a movie that's about drugs is, you guessed it, not a psychedelic movie if it's not about taking PSYCHEDELIC drugs with a clear emphasis on the experience. Trainspotting is not psychedelic, neither is Requiem for a dream. Now I may be accused of defining in my own way what is and is not psychedelic but all I ask is that for some people to sit down and think about the meaning of psychedelia... it's easy to understand under the influence, but it's just as easy to forget it sober. That being said the movies I consider to be psychedelic are quite few : -Yellow Submarine
-Altered States (even though it's not a very good movie)
-Harvard Man to a very small extent
-Jacob's Ladder
-Akira
-The End of Evangelion
-2010 Space Odyssey
-Renegade (a psychedelic western, who would have thought?)
-The Wall

im still a lil bit confused...i can understand a movie being trippy, like snatch, fight club, and movies related to drugs/n its consumption like requim n fear n loathing, trainspottin , basketball diaries etc. but still am not TOTALLY clear about what a psychedelic movie is....and yeah 'the wall' was psychedelic!.  havent seen 'altered states' and jakobs ladder' but am gonna watch it soon 
would a movie liek "the cell" be considered psychedelic? or 'being jhon malkovich'?
P.S on page 21 there is a list of all the movies that have been posted before in this thread! its a great collection

Ok, i dug through my movie journal with all the reviews (Shameless self-promotion. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/journal_view.php?journalid=129848&view=public Link for my reviews ) and came up with a list of some probably psy movies
* Serenity --a superb Wild Wild West movie set in the future in space. Based on the short lived TV series "Firefly". By the director of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" -- Joss Whedon
* Seven Years in Tibet -- Spiritual psy
* The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th dimension -- phew -- such a long name...i personally thought this movie sucked, but it has its moments and is rated very high!
Total Recall -- was it a dream, was it not? the argument continues
Animatrix -- Most of the stories are good -- i think there are 7 short stories. Excellent animation & truly psychedelic
