The Butterfly Effect
Evan Treborn grows up in a small town with his single working mom and his friends. He suffers from memory blackouts where he suddenly finds himself somewhere else, confused. Evans friends and mom hardly believes him, thinking he makes it up just to get out of trouble. And it does seem to always happen something bad during these blackouts. Something that makes his friends depressed and violent. As Evan grows up he has less of these blackouts until he seems to have recovered. Since age of seven he has written a diary of his blackout moments as a kind of therapy. One day at college he starts to read one of his old diaries, and suddenly a flashback hits him like a brick! It appears his brain has finally released some of his lost memories. But to relive old memories can have dramatic consequences as he is about to find out...

Spirited Away
Spirited Away is the story of a young girl named Chihiro who is leaving everything that she knows to move with her family to a new town. On the way to their new home her Father decides to take a shortcut on a dirt road that ends and there is a tunnel, and her parents decide to go through. Scared, Chihiro follows and they find themselves in a small town with many restaurants. With nobody around, Chihiro's parents begin eating and decide to pay later. Chihiro wanders off and approaches a large building where she is told to run away before night by a mysterious young boy. She goes to find her parents who have turned into pigs. As she runs back toward the tunnel she came through she finds water blocking her path. The young boy from the bridge named Haku finds her and helps her into the large building from before, which is a Bathhouse for the Gods of Japan. Chihiro learns she can only stay to help her parents if she finds work at the bathouse, and she must work and find a way to reverse the effects on her parents. This is a story of growing up, and finding ourselves.

Both of them are outstanding movies! I've watched 'Spirited Away' about a year ago, in the Japanese version,
and its just rocks, its one of the best animation movies I've ever seen, and its so twisted!

Kusturica is a genius, his movies are full of dark humor and gypsy magic, typical for Balkan countries.... Arizona Dream is my favourite one
has anybody mentioned The Jacket? very nice and very trippy movie, reminds me on Donnie Darko

I watched "Sin City" recommended by zooter and it's a nice movie.
neuroreactor, I had already watched "Underground" few years ago, and it's a very psychedelic movie.
EYB, I watched Cypher, nice movie, but I would not recommend it here.
Also watched "Equilibrium", the movie with the samples to Astrix - Chaos. Average psychedely, a movie with the same theme of THX: supression of emotions to make a better society.
I'll keep trying to watch your recommendations...

This thread is about psychedelic movies, not "movies I like". And please use the search or read the previous posts.
Please give a brief description of the movie telling us why you think the movie is psychedelic (without spoil the plots).
Thanks!

i'm with you bro!
this movie is amazingg!!! released in 1973.....this french animation paints an animated tale of humans kept as domesticated pets by an alien race of blue humanoid giants called Traags. The story takes place on the Traags' planet Ygam, where we follow our narrator, an Om called Terr, from infancy to adulthood, when he escapes his subjugation with a Traag learning device with which to educate the savage Oms and incite them to revolt. As a French-Czech coproduction, this story had much resonance for its makers as an allegory of Czechoslovakia's invasion by Soviet troops in the late '60s, and had to be completed in Paris due to political pressure. While the story does not distinguish itself in the annals of science fiction, the imagination invested in the surreal backdrops, with its eerie creatures and landscapes, does. The animation technique--moving paper cutouts across backgrounds--contributes to the overall feeling of other-worldliness. Fantastic Planet won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973.....also has one of the most psychedelic soundtracks as well!!!
go and watch it guys! |
