i know this may sound a little dumb, but i just started this thread b/c im curious to know if im the only one thats like this...

so yesterday my (psy-nazi) roomie says lets go to new york.i ask what for? she says to go clubbing.i ask psy-trance? she says hell no!!, hip-hop.i think in my head NO WAY do i want to go dancing to hip-hop in a club anywhere!! if u asked me this a few months ago i'd say yes in a heartbeat, but the idea of it now doesn't amuse me one bit! dont get me wrong, i LOVE hip-hop...anybody who knows me could back me up on that... just going out to a club to 'dance' to it doesnt tickle my fancy, as they say...

i feel like most people at clubs/discos dont even go there to really dance or b/c they love the music... their main intention is to rub up on people or be the one that gets rubbed on... u know what im saying?? and not just that... i feel like some music is too slow to properly move to as well as after going to so many psy events, i forget how to move to hip-hop... i find myself coming up with lame ass excuses to not go out to such events because i really dont want to go and i know the people that want me to go dont understand where im coming from... though i try explaining...

i know WE all go to psy parties for the love of the music, the energy, the trips, the atmosphere, and to see other people's smiling faces... well, maybe some go just to look for ass, but not all... and that too
if we do flirt, its usually just a smile or dancing around someone and ask if ur having a good time or whatever... we dont flirt by grinding w/ each other and abruptly saying "baby can i get your number cuz u are looking so killlla tonite!!"

after i became more involved in the psy-scene the thought of going to a regular night club just seems pointless and not fun at all... does anyone else think the same? as in do you avoid regular nightclubs for the same reasons?? just curious...

i agree 100%. its a completely different experience to go to some random club for the sake of going out. there is no vibe present, everyone's trying to impress each other, people look at u funny if u actually try to dance the way u want to (other than the rap-nod). ever since my involvement with the rave scene and the psy scene in particular, i would never want to go to one of these trashy places.

I too really enjoy hip hop, but it just doesn't do it for me in a party environment. what i like about hip hop is the stream of words that paint a picture in your mind. so, in a club you wouldn't be able to really groove cuz you'd be too involved in listening to the words, but more relevant than that is that club hip hop is that "i've got hoes in different area codes" or "sweat drops down my balls" type. weak

I know exactly what you mean. I don't live far from New York and I go there whenever there's a psytrance party. The music that is being played in regular clubs has no context, no meaning and no musical value. And i'm talking about this hybrid 4X4 house-ish, hard trance-ish, repetitive bullshit with high emphasys on the kicks and the snares. 150-155 BPM. Fucking terrible. And do you know why the stupid ass clubs get so many people? Because that music together with hip hop is great for dancing...so cheerleaders can shake their asses and go home in 2 and then sleep.
And my friends like those kind of clubs.
I'm so frustrated! People in the US(where I'm studying at the moment) are very, very mainstream. IT seems that they don't have the slightest desire to try something uncommon, something different than what's played on the radio.
Don't get me started on the radios. Ughh.

it's a big country - move to a different place, and there's a good chance you'll find a more 'alternative' culture. pockets of it seem to exist all over the place.

I totally agree, the only music ppl will listen to is the so-called "MTV approved" music. If it hasn't been on the air, TV and radio, then ppl will not listen to it.            - The yeti loves to drink shnaps too, so he's like a real shaman... he, uhm, uh, if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest.

folks...
everyone has a reason to go to places. And ppl that go to psytrance outdoor events have also many reasons and it's not only music. In fact, I know much much more ppl that are going to psy events because of something else than music, than ppl who go there for the musical experience.

Well guys... I have to admit... I sometimes go to clubs to listen to some mainstream. But it's only because I want to do sth different. ( And to dance with a girl or two ) I really don't do it for the music just for the fun! That'a all. _Take care_           Long Live The Trance!!!

Well sometimes all of this club partys look like a flirting contest like lets see who get most girls
it looks like ppl only go there to find girls and the girls are there to attract boys and make up their self confidence
they are not there to enjoy the music or something
but i dont blame them
its a music which dont takes to new places and it sounds the same even after 3 years and your brain seeks for something newer and wiser and
for me its like going back in the evolution
its like a man having a car for few years and than have to sell it and start taking buses

different things, but i enjoy both, each one in it's own way. it's up to you, if you not enjoy one of them then just don't go and don't find excuses, just say i don't like it           Without Deviation, Progress Is Not Possible.

But then, TOO much psy is not good either(of course it is). When i say that I mean people at psytrance parties are always "flying" if you know what i mean
People go there to dance and trip and to forget about the outside world. Psytrance events are a kind of salvation to me because nobody cares how you dance and nobody would judge your t-shirt or fooware or the whole outfit.
In clubs where mainstream music is played(hip hop and bad techno) people go to be seen. People are there to look fabulous and to turn heads and to provoke and gain attention.

Once in a while i also go to clubs like that. Lots of hot girls there who are willing to give you the phone number within 5 minutes of knowing you, that's all.

Oh, and when you play psytrance or drum and bass or electronica to people here, they would say: WTF IS THIS? and they would turn on the radio. No patience or any effort to try to understand the music.
