Back to tricks
you can use long sustained evolving sounds, pads, record them to audio and then slice them to various lenghts, from short ones, to realy loooong ones. Play with their positioning in time, panning, volume. Experiment with different sends effects reverbs, delays, FX...
Very good trick which is used alot is to have a gate on a sustained sound, which is triggered by another sound source. You can get very cool sequences and you can use this effect to create more rhytmic stuff or just gentle stutter effect on your pad.
Also use gate with long pads which have long pitch or filter or other kind of envelopes, you can get very cool rising or falling chopped up rhytmic madness. For variations play with slice positioning.
Hope that helps,
best,
.t

Create a biquad~ filter in Max/MSP, and instead of controlling it with with the filtergraph~ object to produce sensible filter coefficients, manually put in wild values that don't make sense.
Run a lead, or simple synth stabs through this filter. You can produce highly unnatural sounds this way.
Also, put LFO's on the filter coefficients |
