Hi guys & girls..

First of all new to the site so thought I would say hi.

I have been a big fan of psy trance and to be honest I think it's the most creative and intelligent genre of dance music from both a listeners point of view and more importantly a producers point of view.

Now for the last two years I have been producing rock/pop music so it's been a while since i have produce anything dance related but I woke up yesturday morning and decided to finally give psy trance a bash.

Now i simply opened up FL Studio and gave it a bash from what I thought would be the best way to achieve the sounds simply from listening to Psy trance.

I have uploaded a sample so if any one has any thoughts/advice/tips I would be most greatfull.

Thanks in advance

Nick

hi nick, some advices from an progressive noob^^

-3min and no bass note key change, psy is not heartless imo
for cool basslines read this: http://forum.isratrance.com/bassline-tutorial/

-check the forum for each "psy instrument" (kick/bass/synth/HH/clap/snare...) how to process it, and very important is >> MIXing/EQing << of them.

look for old threads in the forum... nearly every problem is alrdy answered here.

ps. IMPORTANTE: get some serious VST´s (Vanguard/Battery...) and learn each knop of them. if you got that you will be able to understand others too.

another little help: http://www.dancemidisamples.com/Making-a-Psytrance-Lead.html of processing a psy-lead

cheers

Keep making music and keep listening. Read the threads in this section, especially the "mother of all"'s.

This isn't catered to just electronic music, but it's a very nice reference:

Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

thanks guys..

comments most appreciated.

Should have been myself a bit clearer, my aplogies.

Arrangement and content etc is very thin, key changes etc will come. I was just trying to crack the main sounds more than anything for the time being so was after comments along that line at how close to the sounds I have got and in what department they where lacking etc.

I have updated the sample for any one interested!

Take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Don't follow anything verbatim (especially advice on eqing). Learn what the functions do and how they effect the sound, then tailor that to your specific tastes.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

dont listen too much for all the people in this forum , they can screwed up ur work makin u fall in a pattern..

Isratrance forum has created a PATTERN of how to make psytrance which u dont need necessarily to follow that pattern, and there are a lot of people in this forum that will say for u that u are makin WRONG psytrance because u are not followin those patterns... and its not true...because there s no right psytrance...

like someone up said.. he doesnt like static bass but static bass can be awesome to a lot of people... so its up to u and only u

Good words..but think about industrial standard..hahahahaha looool

its really up to you..when you enjoy your music then its cool,maybe..but many people expect something like basic happening..if that fits your music then it will work..

this one is pretty helpful to start writing harmonic melodies..if your into melodies....

Considering the many different ideas and approaches of how artists produce psy that I have read in this forum, I am amazed you would say that. There is soooo much variety in here, it is great!

learn all the rules then break em, best advice!
also worth mentioning is to not just limit urself to the psytrance genre, you'll be amaze how much can learn when u mess with other genres, u start learning different techniques which later u can implement into psytrance...
OH and by the way welcome aboard mate, this forum is perhaps the best forum with real cool guys who don't mind sharing they're knowledge and experience something not found in other forums, Cheers n again welcome

quickie facts -
drum bass- got some sick ass fuck drum programming
rap music- it's all about space not clutterin shit, also downsouth rap no basslines the 808 kick drum is all the bass u need hahaha
trance- beautyful epic pads and very emotional
house- house got some reall nice grooves and swing love the congas
new age- beatyful way to mix synths with realistic instruments (I love new age)
salsa- fucking crazy percussion work and timing very hard to pull of programmin- i dare anyone in here to try it out its one heck of a challenge...
death metal- sick ass double kick drums and experimenting of distortion at its best.
jazz- improvisation at its best
rnb- grooves and swing here, with complex chord structures and space being very important as well...
dub- delays, phasers experimentaion at its best here very nice to learn how to creat vibe...
those are just some genres in which u can learn lots of different tecniques in which u can apply later to psytrance peace
im sure that oughta open other people's ear in this forum even to the advance musicians
try making a salsa song guys and let me know how it goes good luck i've tryed it and shit drove me nuts extremely challengin recommended to those who wanna learn a thing or two new and are up to the challenge...

yea this forum rock , many varities , but many cheese too...
as said above..perfection here s industrial standarts ( israel trance standarts ? )

anyway .. nick , i have heard ur sample, for the first psytrance track u are great haha

its not my style but its nice, if i were u i would not give it so much of a break, would change the bassline to something less cheese ... something more psychedelic.... its too happy ... let the bass more hipnotic , in a more agressive tone , and MORE POWWWWWWWWER on the sinths...

anyway put a guitar on it and its gonna look like Skazi. so i think its good for the industrial standarts. ( just lackin the power )

I'm with Upavas on this. Well said, my exact feelings too. Maybe there is variety in producing techniques but to me it often comes out similar, the end result.

There is seldom depth anymore. A high pitched kick and a melodic bassline with lots of mid eq leaving little room for something else then the usual bleeps n peeps.

Boring...really boring. More thinking outside the box would please me and I'm sure lots of others.
