A theory suggests that today's psy-trance music (including progressive) rests on tradditional African music. What's your opinion ?            ".. You claim that this thing .. did not affect the larger part of your brain!! Then, how come everyone else describe you as an Extra fu.. terrestrial !!!

Can you please elaborate on that?!! do you mean the beat? the bass?
but psytrance music is a genre of electronic music. it wasn't created from scratch!

Seems like it rests on the ancient drumcodes.

Yes, sorry, I meant of course the rhythm basically, the beat rhythm, the drum beat.            ".. You claim that this thing .. did not affect the larger part of your brain!! Then, how come everyone else describe you as an Extra fu.. terrestrial !!!

my 2 cents

not really sure if psytrance rests on african music ,
but
if u talk about percussion or rhythms that may resemble their sounding qualities to ancient african tribal music is very much true to an extent

if used well these rhythms have great powers to pull u into the Trance-y state of mind =))

some of very good examples will be The Nommos and Nimba ( Ariane project) here u can find some really good stuff , Highly recommended

What about music made by Native American tribes? they did pretty much what we do now, some took psychoactive substances like mushrooms, peyote, ayahuasca, etc, others resorted to meditation or spiritual techniques all this being guided by shamans and following the beat of the percussions, all of them were pursuing a psychedelic experience that connected them with mother earth.

"It began in Africa" did it not? A lot has happened since then... however similar one might rationalize the psytrance experience, it is still based primarily on European electronic music (Kraftwerk, Front 242, The KLF, EBM/new beat).

Although there's obvioulsy been lots of other influences along the way - I'd have thought there was a clear path...

trance>techno>house>disco> funk>R&B>Blues/Gospel> trad afro/american
>african music

I think we can name much more sources here not only african music, there are a variety of ethnic music styles that raised in more late period of history than african beats, and drums widely used in most of them.
But like Bsilisk said- 'A lot has happened since then...' An this history tree is much more complicated than presented.           Keep the flame alive!
