Billy Cosmosis used to be a session guitarist, and Benji Vaugn aka Prometheus also plays guitar I think.            - - It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice... - -

If I may be permitted to mention my own musical background... I took piano lessons for 13 years from the age of 5, and studied music theory and history at school and college, where I spent most of my time in the 8-track studio there. I've forgotten almost all the history now! I played keyboards in various bands from the age of 15, including funk, rock and jazz (standards and improv). I also play bass guitar, drums, percussion and didgeridoo, and have been known to sing (not my best instrument HAHAHAHAHA)...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

My school "education" ended at 15 yrs old with an 'F' in metalwork.

Then my real education began when I bought my first synth and shut myself away with it for 10 years.

None of the musicians I know have any kind of formal training.

I guess experience is the only education of value. Jamming with other people, trying out new stuff etc..
And if Ott says - none of the musicians I know have any kind of formal training -
Then whats said in the link above is just not true, since Ott knows many of this people.

I think there has been a lot of wild guesswork in this thread.

I think maybe people want to believe that their favourite artists have had a formal musical training...

At least half of the artists mentioned in this thread dont have a clue about music.

And for sure more than half of the people that answered this thread dont know what music education is.
