Essentially, media piracy is not illegal in Russia, so... yeah.

the real money is made in live performance anyways...that's something you can never pirate...releasing music is just promotion for the live, ultimately (atleast this is what things are moving towards) |

That has always been my view... It's rougher for American artists since parties are smaller here and less frequent, but in the rest of the trance world you can make more for playing one set than you often would for licensing a track.
Not that I ever imagine making any sort of lasting amount of money from psy-trance...
But I feel where Kri is coming from... it's an interesting feeling when you stumble across your work on some weird place on the internet you didn't expect to find it.
Seeing people trade mp3s is par for the course, and as you mentioned, almost necessary for promotion at this point - but bootlegging for profit is always ugly.

Hi, I feel it is necessary for an artist to make as much money as possible from the artwork, for example if the person is without any other income and it means the difference in buying more food etc. :] |

Don't patronize such scum... selling MP3s harvested from file-sharing networks is just low. If you want cheap music just go pirate it yourself on one of the free networks. Better yet, buy something you like
The illegal MP3 download sites are doing one thing right though: abandoning per-unit costs for a bandwidth levy... i.e. the file size of your download correlates to the cost. Smart.

if that was @ me -_-
it was a psuedo-joke.
DV's comment is true. Live Acts prevail.
I don't support pay sites for music. Not even Mall-Wort (another joke ooh). When I do have money I buy the albums straight from the artist, not online (i h8 'hidden fees' and 3rd party costs). Or sometimes the Distributor (also in person). And when I'm around the haight I may swoop into Reverb or Amoeba and cop a disc or two.
Harsh Reality:
I'm broke. Online piracy has been a part of my life since Napster and will be until I can afford such delectables of delight
Even Harsher Reality:
Online piracy will always be ticking away. Shunning it on a forum or in person isnt going to do anything.
Advice:
Get an internship @ RIAA and hope one day you get hired. (not a joke)
I know satire is an often-spoken, seldom-understood language on this forum. So don't take offense.
Prost,
J

GGGrrrrrrrrrrrr! it's sooo tempting. too tempting! i feel the karmic cost could be more than $.15/track. especially if you appreciate what these guys are out there doing. i.e. spreading tight, tight, super tight, Goddamn mindblowing sound for nothing but maybe their trouble for getting to the place where they blew said mind. love these guys/gals! i prefer getting my tracks from the source. i see rich the witch, and spook when i can for the dank geo. tv hook up. WORD!
If there's one thing I know, it's not to mess with mother nature, motha-love, and motherf^@%ing psytrance! |

i dont know arent you all over reacting a bit? I guarantee all those artists didnt spend more than 6 minutes on each of those songs so thats like $0.025 per minute. I think thats fair compensation. In fact I just finished 3 tracks while writing this.
