few time ago a friend of mine make me listen a gabber :S song called "pattern in the chaos" (if you are curious you can find it on youtube but keep the volume low ).
Obviously is not my cup of tea but i've found so inspiring the automation of the distortion on the kick...

That is a good point. but at the same time, if simon's music speaks to your soul, then there is a reason for that...maybe it is connected and inside that type of sound drives you (which is what drove us all to trance in the first place). So, you will never be able to mimic simon because he has his own production methods and sounds that he designed.....
Now the thing is if you break his sound down and try to recreate it exactly, then you are just copying, even though it will never be the same..
if you look to him for inspiration though and then create your own art based on that vibe, then you are being true to yourself....
everyone that makes trance copied somebody at some point. same for all types of music. but if you are true to yourself, then your music will reflect that..
One example of this is Bill Cosmosis.. that guy comes up with some dope stuff, from his soul....and he is not afraid to mix blues and other styles in his music.
but when he started, he got a paul oakenfold dragonfly cd I think and then was hooked and created his own unique form of that music. in the beginning it was very similar to all the transient and tip stuff out there but over time, he separated himself and developed his own unique style....
..
I have always been a big fan of his. Even if a release isn't my favorite, I appreciate it for the creativity and art.
And to top it of, he is one of the nicest guys out there...you have questions, he will help you..he offers cheap tutorials and lessons on how to get the fundamentals right...
He is OG, but had to copy someone at some point.
assumption is the mother of all fuckups. |

great interview, kudos
definite floyd influences there
we are the sum of all that we experience, and maybe some cosmic dust in there also, he's definitely right, the soul of the artist comes through in the expression of the art
