Most people would tell you to experiment untill you figure it out, which is definitely one of the best ways to get your own distinct sound. I also would suggest that you look at how some of the better sounding presets are made, and try to do some variations of that. I will give you a couple of hints though: 1. Some psy leads are done using sawtooth waveforms.
2. Band Pass Filters are your friends.
3. Never hesitate to have a LFO control things, whether they be pitch, cutoff, or resonance (or anything else for that matter)
Other than that, some of my best leads have been "happy accidents"

Two good tips for psy sounds from z3ta+. One is use reso BST. Makes it scream more with the right settings. And at the effects page, the DECIM(ator). You can make voice like sounds with it. The formant filter is good for voice like sounds as well. Oh, and the heavy metal distortion is good as well.
And also get the virus mod for it. It has some waves and arpeggios from virus. It's free.
