I think he asked about "psy", not pop

tsk tsk tsk, have you heard who needs love songs? come on mate, just cause they decided to do pop recently does not take away the fact that was prob one of the best full-on compo's of 2004           elementoftime.net

I dunno, kinda feels bad when Astrix is submitted to someone as a classic...

I mean shit man, Man with no name, Koxbox, Transwave, Prana, Juno Reactor, Semsis, Sub Unity Nettwerk, Manmademan, MFG, Shiva Chandra, Electric Universe, Infinity Project, Total Eclipse, X-Dream, Psychaos, Green Nuns Of the Revolution...

This is classic.           Bring yourselves into the light

I will agree with my friend Otherin this subject...
But I will say also that new labels and projects are on the scene that includes classical vibes than the old ones...           Imagination is more important than Knowledge!

hello everybody...

Am a new member here, and basically a progressive house/trance (the deeper the better hehe, dark is good as well) fan being recycled into psy...

A good friend introduced me to Talamasca, Yahel, Infected M, and Sphongle but i need to go deeper into psy...

I would really appreciate if you can give me few suggestions about nice underground psy/goa "classics" (am bit lost with all the names on the forum)

Cheerz!

All right - This is PSY according to KRELL. (theres plenty of opinions out there, so this is just mine - Ive followed the music since 1994/95 - 1995 as a DJ&Organizer)

The Psytrance Music can take you down 6 Main paths

PSYCHEDELIC, MELODIC, FULL ON, TECH, PROGRESSIVE & CHILLOUT

I will give you some recommendations, chronologicly for each path. The words "Goa Trance" and "Psychedelic Trance" can be used with everything in these 6 categories - They have ALL been encountered frequently at "goa style parties".

PSYCHEDELIC (now also developed into more aggressive "Dark Psy" which crosses into Full On)
1995 KoxBox "Forever After" - Harthouse - http://www.discogs.com/release/932

-> I suggest you buy
2004 Vibe Tribe "Melodrama" - Utopia Records - http://www.discogs.com/release/355133

FULL ON (this style often crosses into melodic & psychedelic)
1998 Oforia "Delirious" - Dragonfly Records - http://www.discogs.com/release/451853
1999 VA "Psycho Tropic" - 3D Vision - http://www.discogs.com/release/123556

-> I suggest you buy
2004 H.U.V.A. Network "Distances" - Ultimae Records - http://www.discogs.com/release/235694

I choose to mention earlier releases rather than new releases... However, I also recommend 1 CD in particular in each genre in order to get a good impression of where the music is now (I like all the releases mentioned though).

There are SO many new releases within each genre - and, I tried to mention some of the ones who have been important to me and many others during the years... Basicly, I try to mention the FIRST one I feel arrived in each genre (from the top of my head) - and then I mention some of the releases I find noteworthy which follow in the pioneering releases slipstream.

Also, last - I would like to encourage you to watch the Son Kite Live in Tokyo DVD - It, for me, creates a very strong backdrop for their live set - Its very dreamy, and I fellt sort of more visually directed in the journey thru their set...

I think, if you get to hear all of these releases + buy the ones I mention + watch the Son Kite DVD - You will have a good impression of what Psy is about, and you will be on your way to building up your own collection of musical gems

Just buy everything that Twisted rec. ever released. If you want something modern, you should buy their last compilation, unusual suspects 2, probably my favorite release this year. Twisted is BTW Simon Posford’s label AKA. Hallucinogen and Shpongle.           "Love is a way of life"

(Gaia, Love, Nature, Shamanism (.2A.y.0a.hu.1a.sc.2a.), Terence McKenna)

how i can remember atmos is worse full on

buy trust in trance 1, hallucinogen "twisted" and "the lone deranger", electric universe "stardiver" Astral Projection "Another world" elecric universe "one love" Trust in trance next millenium, Astral Projection "Danzing galaxy, buy alzo stuff from shakta. I called the bast and most fammous artists in the trancescene, enjoy!

PS. I warn you about the following projects because they produce worse full on that have nothing to do with the real psytrance, the standart specifications of ufll on are worse monophonic basslines, worse voice samples in a long delay, worse kicks, bad yuality sound uality like stops in the tracks and worse stereo settings. Here the groups: alien project, atomic pulse, space cat, delirious, psycraft, psydrop, psysex, ... this are anly a few of the full on groups

No, not really - I look forward to the future and try to enjoy the present.

Still, doesnt mean I dont appreciate the past - also, lots of music becomes timeless

for old psy:

The Infinity Project:
anything you can find. the first trance track i ever ever heard that sounded like psychedelic trance was "feeling kinda weird" by T.I.P. from 1993 i believe...

then somehow that word was used for their records label and you had TIP records-
The TIP singles in colors were great.
Make to get
TIP Singles: 3D (the blue one)
and the orange one whatever that one was with the laughing buddha track "Karma"

Psychopod: Psychopod... probably the best single album in trance music history, well i guess i reserve a special place for UX ultimate experience so they have to share #1... now they are called Saikopod. what gives?

prana: boundless, i don't know the name of their album... was proper psy from nick taylor and tsuyoshi.

x-dream: radio or various singles.(panic in paradise, we created our own happiness...) for gods sake avoid trip to transylvania if you are looking for psy. their side projects of delta, organic noise, etc were pretty nice also

UX: the ultimate experience. this albums STILLS blows me away. i think it is holographic. AMAZING deep psychedelic music.

Cosmosis- Synergy was my favorite.

Darshan: Awakening!
my friend Ben who died from cancer really loved this album and heard it played over and over again while he died. The track called Windchimes is quite spooky in a good way- sends shivers up yer spine...

Shakta- enlightened Ape- much better than silicon trip IMHO.

some of the Hommega "Full On Audio" series in the late nineties (2,3,4) were really good and quite psychedelic actually. 3 was best i remember...

which brings me to Infected Mushroom:
totally commercial not psy today.
however their debut album, The Gathering was highly psychedelic and just plain kicked ass. check it out

I think there's a lot of squeaky 303 music out there that folks remember as "classic goa trance" some doesn't sound so good today........ but there are also tracks that really still hold their own and go places the new music never goes. There was more overt musicality in the older goa.

so thats my tast in old psy

Definitive albums and artists that set the stage for today:

Atmos:headcleaner, Ticon, Blue Planet Corp...
= psy prog sound...

Absolum, GMS vs SystemBusters, Talamasca
= these guys pretty much defined full on.

Droidsect= i dont know but they were ahead of their time...

here is psy i think you should check out:
(note i'm only listing psychedelic trance here
new stuff i am making right now
Kindzadza
Savage Scream
Terminator aka Freaking aka Zolod. RIP
Highko/Cosmo HighCosmos
Alex Zik Matutero Horror Place
Alien Mental
Fractal Cowboys
Penta
Grapes of Wrath
Jahbo
anything DiscoValley or Parvati...
Xenomorph
Dronebixie
Derango
Digital Talk
Naked TOurist
and about 10 million others i forgot. doh! sorry!

Some things blur the line between Psy and Full On but you know it when you are totally out of Psy and into clubland. You leave the cool noises and get synthy "meow meow" instead. usually one note.

I think the artist names are not the only thing- any artist can make all kinds of different sounds so you just have to see what tracks you like etc...

also many artists don't make the stuff they used to, they change, as people do...
and stuff...
