My question:
Do I need a DSP card to run ProTools in my PC?
I´ve got a M-audio Audiophile, am I able yo run ProTools with it?
Thanks |

You don't need DSP hardware to run protools software, but the TDM fx needs it.....and the RTAS i belive you need digidesign hardware like digi001 with direct I/O drivers to use.
But as a basic multitrack audio editor without FX you can use it.
I would probably run logic even if i used the hardware DSP cards though.
Pro-tools software is smooth and solid for audio work, but lacking in the MIDI department. |

There's also the LE version that you could use. It's completely free and it offers up to 8 tracks of audio and 48 tracks of MIDI, real-time plug-ins, and many of the same editing and mixing features the pros use.
But the catch is that it's only compatible with Win98/ME or OS9 if you have Mac.
I used it for a while, it's only good for studying the program. Not for real work.

the old free version is realy nothing compared to the new 6.4 version.
if you want to get a proper LE version
(and pavel thats not the free one for win98)
you will nead at least the MBOX or a digi 001, 002...but that dosnt have the TDM capabilities...get the mbox i think.
