I was wondering how many people are actually protecting their ears and what your experiences are with ear plugs.
I was thinking of getting a pair of good (150+ euro) earplugs to give my ears a longer life

i always use earplugs when im out to psy parties with big soundsystems. Imagine loosing your hearing because of not doing it
my experience is that i don't get ringing in my ears days after, and if its good earplugs, they turn down the volume in all frequencies, and you wont miss anything.

I think on big (open air) festivals with an extremely good sound system (like on vuuv this year) it's not really needed to use earplugs.
However indoor parties tend to have worse equipment and in general it's much louder because you get a lot of echoing and the sound doesn't go away easily.
I honestly don't see any reason to buy E 150+ earplugs. I got mine for free on some outdoor party and i've used them for years and years and when i use them i never and up with a beep in my ears after the party. Can't really see any benefit to spend that much on earplugs unless you are paranoina, in which case you should wear them all the time cause your ears are victim to every day noise like cars passing by etc anyway..

agree with most of your comment Jerry, but góod earplugs sits better in the ear, and is far more comfortable to wear than cheap foam plugs.

the main difference between good and cheap earplugs is that really good earplugs are made especially for the person who is going to wear them, cause otherwise it wouldnt fit 100% and this way some frequencies could still go around it and enter the ear without any protection and damage your hearing in that range!
so the answer is yess you should get some, especially when you need them to earn your money

I ALWAYS wear earprotection
You saw em already from me i think
i payed in total 170 euros for custom made protection that keeps the frequency spectrum in tact + insurance for losing/damaging
Everything actually sounds better when i have em in, i wear em while playing aswell
You are crazy if you dont wear em, especially when you are a producer.
Some people that i know that are in their mid 30s fuckedup their hearing so much that their mixes dont sound flat. (too much highs most of the time...

I got some cheap £5 plugs.. always wear them out and about, especially on British transport! The squeeeeeeeling of trains as it goes into the station makes my eyes water.
I'd like some better ones for clubbing, so I can hear everything flat, but the cheap ones are fine for now, they do the job at protecting me from that Oooooooooooooooooooooooooo sound the next day

I'm not so sure its such a black and white issue. Perhaps a good guide line to consider would be if when in a club its not possible to hear someone trying to talk to you then your probably in a spot where it is too loud, either that or should perhaps go easy on the ket or MDMA. I haven't for along time now had any issues post clubbing with my hearing but I do always make the effort to find a place where its not too loud and not too much traffic. If I have to walk past a speaker stack then I cover my ears.
I think I would personally be concerned with ipods and in ear headphones on public transport. Many people use these on an almost daily basis which is perhaps more of an issue than the less occasional trip (not in all cases) to a club or party.

The louder the DB of a sound, the less time you can be exposed to it without facing chance of a chance of hearing loss. The DB rating obvisouly falls off with your proximity to the sound source.
As a tenitus sufferer, don't ignore the ringing in your ears- it's your body trying to protect itself.
If you're an avid fan, spend the bucks for molds of your ears to be done for custom earplugs. You can use these for the rest of your life!

You should be able to get a cheap pair ($5 or so) from your local music shop that will lower the sound 20-25dB...assuming that whatever you're hearing is at 115-120dB or less, listening with a pair like that will prevent permanent hearing damage for about 5 hours..
