I use Wavelab, a few directX (waves) plugins and the usual VST plugins... Tell what way is proper to use the settings on EQ and Compressor etc etc etc...
Thx in advance...

Hello.
Good.
As you, i use "Wavelab" and plugins by "Waves" too. To do it a good mastering, i used to analise tracks from producers with a sound that is similar of the track that i´m mastering, you know.
I use to put the music on spectral analiser and do it a compare. But only with similar track´s. With this technic, it´s possible adjuste the volume, the low frequencys, high frequencys...like a track that i know that is good in a nice system party.
For me, the best equipments it´s the compressor "C4" by waves, because it is multband, the ultramaximizer "L1 - Limiter" by waves, the spectral analizer from the wavelab, and the "EQ-10" by waves. And hardwares, a maximizer from BBE, very nice, specially to guitars, and a Focusrite compressor too.
Finally, the settings of the equipment that i am using, for me, have no rules to use. I mean, you should use you ears, hehehe. A master track it´s almost aways diferents, specially because a producer use to do diferents mix of another producer, althoug the music it´s of the same kind.
Bye! |

well i'm not a mastering master but i can give ya my 2 cents
as i c techtrance is music goes more for clean sounds
1. i would record each channel seperatly with proper eq'ing and filtering and same level (.wav files)
2. master each channel for best clean sound
3. after that i would mix all tracks together and then to play with levels for best sound
and if u need to fix/compress/filter/eq the channel a little bit more record it again with new parameters in sequenser and back to 1
after that track should sound nice
and then u do a mastering of whole track (final .wav) add a bit of rewerb on whole track to give it bit warm and rich sound and stuff like that
tell us how its goes

try to listen to very good quality released cds before your mastering..
never use compression unless you are 100% sure it will make a better result..
never record the track in a very high volume..
-3db to -2db should be the higher limit..
use a maximizer to raise the volume..
take breaks after 20-30 minutes of work...
try to listen to your finalized work to a very high and a very low volume (of your speakers)..
that way you can see what is right or wrong and what should have more "life"..
always master after midnight..
never take drugs before mastering.. a cup of coffee is an excellent choice..
always recycle paper and plastik..

if you record your track at 0db (or more) the Noise reduction filter won't work (as wanted)..

I'm 100% agree with SuperGlue about that ,
if u going to try mastering yo track , u can
destroy it with just one compression or
noise-reduction .
So , do the best in yo arrangement , and leave the
mastering to a Sound Engeneer .
It's because i know a lot of sound engeneers who
getting a track to master , and the producer of that track already tryed to master it , and he say like:
"i already mastered it , it just need some fixes here
and there" The sound engeneer will always say :
"did u keep the original version ?"
To a sound engeneer fixing bad mastered track a lot
more dificult than do the mastering to unmastered
version .
mastering it's a very professional subject ,
better to concentrate in the music , and leave the
mastering work to some good engeneer .
Peace. |

you'll never be as good in music synthesis as you could be without knowing a lot about sound (engeneering)..
it's like trying to be the best painter you can be without knowing the theory of colours..
i love what i do and i always try to do it in the best way by learning as much as i can about it, and this is something i do for everything i love..
(i'm using this sentence more like a general phrase and not like i'm talking about myself... although i do.. )
