Listen up lads, your music will never sound good unless you get a setup something like this:

nice!
but looks more like a mastering set-up, and something that most people can only aspire to have after a lifetime of hardwork, or some serious financial backing

nonetheless, i ascribe to the punk-rock ethic - noise is good!

I saw a documentary clip on youtube concerning a group of "audiophiles"... the owner of this room is obviously one too.

The amount of money these dudes spend on equipment is insane. I seriously doubt a normal person could tell the difference between this and a high end home theater system.

The people that are into this at this kind of level are clearly guys with a mild case of obsessive compulsive disorder and... a lot of money.

Though this is more of a listening space, than a control monitoring facility.

Looks cool anyhow.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Far out !

However, if your listening environment is better than the mixing and mastering environment in which your music is recorded and processed, what good is such a setup (besides a psychological penis-extension) ?

You're absolutely right. My Dad has a room like this with valve tube driven amplifiers, pre-amps, vinyl player that looks like it was designed by a Martian, silly cables and hidieously expensive speakers taller than I am. I'm scared to go in there because I played my tracks on it and they sounded shit.

He's always loved sound (although you're right about the obsessive compulsive thing - I think thats where I get my music love from) he's slowly built the system of his dreams over about 20 years, but now he's 60, I'm pretty sure he's deaf anyway. Hopefully I can combine it with my studio one day.

Very nice set up if your into pure audio.... You gotta have bank to toy with that stuff.... Pure audio set up is really exspensive... 2meter cable could run you like 2 to 300 bucks per.... And I know guys that dont use connectors at all!! Everything is welded together direct... But these guys are at a whole different level...           Shut up and dance...

What about the reflections off the laptop? Not to mention the bare wooden walls and floor.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Judging by the insane amounts of power conditioners etc, I'm assuming he has a fear that carpeting would create static electricity in the wires.

This bit is what really gets me:
