While I think it can be quite spam-like, I don't think its spam...I find the tagging thing more annoying, to be honest.
At the end of the day, people who know you will surely know you're a musician, producing tracks and doing your best to get them out there, and they'll hopefully support you along the way...not view it as spam, if they get pissed off, then they can defriend you.
As for the groups and people he adds, they are club nights, people who love the music, so they are the perfect place to leave a link to his stuff.
I don't think it looks desperate either...giving your music a push. If you don't, it isn't going to be heard, surely? |

There is nothing bad in promoting your new release, but spamming with freshly made tracks is bad thing to do.. Like some kid that installed fl studio 2 months ago..
If you think you have something to offer, find a label, release it and than promote it..
I never spam people with my tracks. Even my best friends don`t know how my tracks sound like. Why to bore people that don`t like psy trance.
If you spam everyone, you music imo lose on its value..
Make release and promote it like it deserves |

Well that's up to you really. The first time and only time i've done it I got about 70 fans that I didn't know existed because they didn't know my music existed and all I heard was positive feedback. From what I could tell, no one defriended, but I wouldn't be offended if they did.
I'll just make sure I don't tag you

Releasing a tune is easy. Really, there are so many labels releasing so much "varied" music, nowdays, both style and quality wise.
Like I said, If it seems hard, you haven't been doing this long enough and you just need to stick with it for a while.
Peace out.

Well, I don`t see it that way.. It`s all about making good music and enjoying it. Only support I am asking is to be there when I play live
I`ve been producing electronic music for 9 years now(trance for 4 years)... and I feel like it is only the beginning..
If you aim high, you have to wait and work on it. I belive passion for music we all got
Just be patient and learn as much as you can

Hmmm. To be honest I haven't really looked...
I did a split release with an IDM producer, way WAY back when I'd first started producing, but it was on a small insignificant netlabel :/
I dunno, perhaps I'll do some homework and look for somewhere suitable to release a few tracks at some point. Who knows. |

I can agree to somethings that you say, still i think you shouldn´t be afraid to send Emails or ask questions, if you do it in a nice and personal manner!
Of course music speaks for it self and having a demo sent or finding a good track/artist wont matter in this case.
I must agree that a complete bio is not necessary in a email, a quick introduction and or sharing the story or idea behind the track is always nice. But never criticize your self or your track, If you feel you have to do that or want to do that, Go back to the mix and fix it. Cause you are wasting your energy and others. IF you know there is a problem it is up to you to fix it.
So send tracks you are happy with, if you get some good viewpoints and critics its all good and you decide if you can use it to your advantage.
This thing with sending demos to festival arrangers is not a bad idea, maybe will work best for a complete album that is already released, and sending a video of a successful gig with nice vibe can help you to get a booking at their festival. So if you have a big wish to play at some certain festival, Contact them with a personal sincere Email, Not with LARGE pictures or too much mumbo jumbo, just plain and simple and personal. And send only one link to something, not many links, this will only confuse. By all means write your desire and wish down so they know, but without sounding needy! just that you love or like their idea and want to contribute to it, And even if someone saying that playing free is a bad thing, it can really be a opening to something. If you make a successful gig people will want to see you again, and you will get money this time. Or maybe you are happy playing for free Its all up to each and own to decide. |

One thing I see a lot of people around the states miss is connecting with promoters to get to play at shows. This is a huge promotional point for artist nationally (same thing in the djing world, getting heard at a party is one of the best ways to get recognized). If you're not known, don't get expected to be flown out anywhere/paid to play, but if you like going to parties and playing your music (and can afford it), just contact a promoter and say you're gonna be there and ask if you can play (comping an entrance fee if they like your music isn't a big deal).
For instance, I didn't even know Amoeba lives in michigan (where there are actually occasional parties now) and he hasn't contacted me- someone who help run with the biggest festivals in the midwest .
I don't think simply having an internet presence is enough in most cases.

Totally agree
On myspace you can see a lot of spamming, both artists and netlabels. its pretty damn frustrating with all these images cluttering some nice space.
And when you see the exact same message on all myspace accounts you visit you know its a spammer, And infact it has the opposite effect, People like most us will not even click the links or check out the thing at all.
This is why personal trustworthy promotion is the best. No big pictures, No un-personal spamming messages.
Like for example, instead of going to your myspace and sending you a link to a release, i will PM you and say, "hey TimeTraveller my friend how are you? Today we released our new VA album Take a listen and tell me if you like it, i spent a good amount of time putting it together. Lets speak on msn soon
Cheers mate" Okej not the best example here cause it probably would happen in a different way. but maybe a fair example, and i would probably not send TimeTraveller Pm here like that, he would probably find out anyway in some other way. haha
anyway
Now what will happen when this personal connection happens and TimeTraveller really likes the music, well he will tell people by automatic, hey have you heard psytrance? no? okej check this release, its pretty good, maybe you will like it.
Iv done this a lot of times, Especially with Ektoplazm, i recommend it to people, Also Pureuphoria records sent me a link, i downloaded the album and really like a lot of tracks on it. So i recommended it to a girl i was talking to. This is how good personal promotion happens and this is the way i like it. |

1 thing i learnt is 1 track or 2 tracks or 3-4 trakcs is not good enough, you need atleast like 1-2 hours of your own sound, so stay focused and continue with the flow, if in the way 1-2 tracks get released good enuff, but you stay on target, and finish that 1 hr , or 2 ! and then present a finished product, which will have an instant impact on yourself and on others as well, what i noticed is i loose the flow when i slack off, and i get a good rhythm when i been on top of the sound for a few days in a row,so all i can say is keep working, and the rest will follow soon enough.
