Hey,
i think every producer wants to be something in music. for example a lot of them have livesets, dj`ing, cd, free music, apple store ...
what is it for you, and how do you promote yourself best? what advice would you give for fresh producers?
i dont know any psy artist, and here are just loose DARK psy parties... so the live thing probably will not be my thing, and i wonder what else i could do.
cheers

Hi
I will hit you up with some ideas.
1. Send demos to festival arrangers, send a track that has good dancefloor potential. one track to start with, but tell how many you have and that it can cover a set.
2. Send demo tracks to netlabels, preferably those who are close to the style you create.
3. Make demo video when you play live or Dj, just make sure to make a nice setup and if you dont have crowd, try to make it look like you have one. at least try and look like you entertain.
4. Update your myspace and make personal promotion to festival arrangers and labels there.
5. Make your own webpage, preferably with flash and cool artwork.
6. make your own podcast. Also Dj others music and show your taste, if it talks to many you have a better chance to get gigs.
7. Make your own party.
There are a lot of things you can do.

most sets i see last for about an hour on soundcloud!
Using iTunes aint a bad way to promote oneself, make some myspace account and website! you can probably rent some local place, throw small parties, make some flyers, compares where you live, i who live in norway can easily do that i know..
i guess it all compares! what u wanna be
i think live acts sounds like a cool idea, even just be there, and play your music live
it sounds really fun, and i'm probably gonna do it when i'm ready for it.
Having people enjoy one's music is just a magic thing.

Releasing good music is the best possible promotion you can get.
Speaking for our selves (we're still fresh our first DH album came out only two years ago) releasing the first two albums with Ektoplazm has helped us reach a large audience. Some of them were promoters in various countries that invited us over to play.
Peace out.

I agree! Nothing really can beat it hehe
But there are lots of stories where artists just sit on their good music and dont spread it around. That is a shame. So best is to try and spread it in all possible ways

around 10 tracks but insteed of releasing 10 tracks in a album you better release 1 tracks on 10 Vas in some months or few ep, albums is no more the way to go imo from a commercial point of view for a new artist, you have less exposure in time with albums . |

if you start working on album and have nothing ready it will take you months maybe 1 year.imo it make more sense to try to find a label for the track as soon as it s ready ,get some connections and work on the next one at same time.
it s better to realese stuff frequently so the guys always see your name. look at umek, the guy have so much exposure, i don t listen much music or get fresh sound but i see his name everywhere ,thats good marketing .

album gives more bookings though, but they have to be good and sound mature enough.

i can't imagine anyone getting into psytrance for celebrity status.
just be happy to make the music that really matters. |

Umek's reputation is mostly due to the fact that everyone who's anyone in the techno scene, wants him to remix their tunes.
I had a chat with a friend of mine that has a label called Dieb Audio on which I released a remix last year and also has Umek on remix duties for his label...he said the dude (Umek) got 10's of email from well known labels/people begging him to remix their tracks.
Umek is a prime example of a very dedicated dude, that is making a killing and laughing all the way to the bank.
Peace out.

not celebrity but at some point making music for free is no more possible if you want to invest lot of time into it.
trying to promote the best your music and getting the most out of your work seems natural to me cause it s lot of time invested . |
