Hey peeps,

Has anyone head the new Prometheus album SPIKE? I can't seem to get it out of my iPod and think its about as good as psychedelic trance gets. It has been one of the top ranked albums on Beatport for several weeks and I see many big things coming from this killer DJ. The album is also on iTunes.

Check it out here...

Is it just me and my suspicious mind, or when someone comes onto a forum, banging on how good a certain artist is, with complete links to buy the product, and no previous posts, or threads, it just screams PROMOTIONAL SCUMBAG in my mind.

I mean where was the meet and greet.           www.youtube.com/trancevisuals

Yea, that's kinda weird... As for the topic in hand, I have a couple of tracks off this album and I can't say I have that much of a desire to check the rest of it...

I have seen this message on some other forums. This is someone's idea of a viral advertising campaign I guess... really unnecessary, IMO, and just makes them look bad.

The music is well produced as always, and there are a couple of tracks that I like on it...but it seems like it has a *lot* of techno/minimal influence, and in contrast to his prior material....

IDK. I like the old stuff better.

and yeah, the album is already doing quite well on beatport and the Twisted artists are well known as you can get in the Trance scene so posts like this seem very, very unnecessary.

has anyone ever made music that didn't have techno influence? Techno has been around since the 80s and practically all electronic music made in the 90s to now is at least partially influenced by techno.

And yes that includes ALL goa trance and psytrance.

Personally I don't hear the minimal in this album at all and it's honestly the first REAL trance I've heard for quite a while that doesn't sound copypaste at all.

from the previews It sounds kind of tech-trance, but I can understand the minimal label to it.

Any way it seems good, i wil purchase it next month in Beaport since the last time I order from twisted record a 180 USD worth order was lost in the mail.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

I "borrowed" it out of curiosity. Not bad. Don’t know about minimal etc., though. To me most of it sounded more like a progressive tribute to JM Jarre. It’s decent stuff, imho, and some of it is even interesting; a couple of tracks may be worth keeping.

As for the spam campaign, I don’t understand the need for it. It seems like the kind of music that is going to be pretty popular anyway (maybe even more so outside the psy scene). I’d imagine, it’s especially true in Europe. Those “promoters” do only disservice to the author and the label.

Yeah idk about my labeling it as 'minimal' or 'techno influenced' - first of all I am being kind of hypocritical as I rage against genrefication all over this board but yet I fall victim to it at times as well when I'm attempting to describe something. Secondly because I don't ever (or very rarely) listen to stuff that's labeled as minimal or techno, so those terms for me might mean something very different from people who actually listen to a lot of minimal or techno.

I guess what made me use the term 'minimal' is that in comparison to the rest of his material its kind of sparse? Not as busy? More subtle, less 'psychedelic' in that the leads and sounds for the most part seem kind of tame (to me)

I like Colt (though I have this odd feeling that I've heard it way before he released it on his album...can't shake that feeling, it gets me everytime..), great chill track, Triplets is pretty bouncy and fun...not so much of a fan of the repeated vocals in some of the tracks...like the one track whose name I forget that has the guy saying 'come out to show them' always sounds to me like 'Come out your shoulder' or something...makes me giggle

or the circuit rhythm echo track...meh. Going off of this and the new YB material, seems like Twisted is getting old and slow!!!

At least it's doing well on Beatport.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

in fact i think that this new prometheus album start exacttly where arcadia magic ends, that album went more psy, these one goes more tech trance.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
