Hello everybody,
I mange to make nice full on kicks, but I just can´t make any phat Progressive Kicks. I don´t mean the technoid kind of Kick, I´m desperatly looking for a way to make extremely clear and crisp an punchy Kicks like Shiva Chandra use on the "Auricular" Album. For Example the "Creator Rmx" one of my favourite tracks... this Kick makes me crazy but I don´t come even close to that result...
I tried the Infected tutorial, Bazzism, Drumatic 3 and all sorts of ways but they all end in making kicks with a different style..
can somebody please help?
cheers Tim

I hate to point out the obvious, but can't you just lift it from a track?

take the art of compression into deeper levels and you will get there eventually. imagine what kick you want and design it.
its not coming easy, sometimse i sit long time till i make my desired kick drum

Compression isn't going to get you all the way if you don't have a good kick sample to start with.
What worked for me is layering 2 kicks, one punchy and one deep low and longer kick.
Just cut the higher frequencies of the low kick and there you have a deep but punchy kick.
You can still add some extra lowend to it by using something like Waves Rbass.
After that a little compression will do the job to make your kick even more perfect.
And what's important to is to keep the balance right between your kick and all the other sounds in your project.
Very ofton your kick sounds good by itself but when playing the full track, it could easily get overshadowed by all the other sounds, and that's where you can loose the punch of the kick as well.

Thomas Penton Essential Drums & Percussion, is a great sample CD. It has close to 300 kick drum samples on it, coming from a Progressive/Progressive Trance producer of many years. I think you would have no problem finding what you're looking for, especially with good compression and eq. Good luck man :tu: |

hi guys,
thank you all for your tips...
i´m getting close to what i want with a combination of what you said...
i´m using bazzism which is a damn cool vst as a basis, then use compression as well as the tc powercore character plugin, which gives an extra crisp punch... layering does the rest, and bamm... kick in your face...

I recommend putting shakers or loose hi-hats over your fullon kicks..it'll sound like some of the newer "club" oriented prog tracks..basically the only element I like about the new stuff.. |

basic advices:
-psyprog needs longer kicks than full on. that means "fatter" also.
-sometimes EQing doesn`t sound wonders, and multiband compression is your friend here... |
