Im hoping to start some good discussion on progressive trance here. Things like how people make their progressive & subtle synth sounds for building up the track. Which basslines work best. And also discuss how our favourite progressive artists do what they do. |

I find that in most progressive, KBKB works well for the begionning of a track, then movin onto K-BB is nice. |

i think the best prog basslines cannot be described with letter in the keyboard like K or B
when its good , it sounds much deeper and intresting the kbkbk
it sound like k-b-k--bk-b-kb-b
or bass sound like "wap" with some attack on the filter.. that electro vibe you know..
oh yeah , dont forget endless reverbs and delays
:haha:
alot of those names you mentioned using 2 basslines alot , LISH for sure. www.sattelbattle.com

try opening a tone generator set it to white noise compress the shit out of it then put a noise gate on it and have that sidechained by a bus. have the input of the bus a midi track with some sounds that have a tight transient liek a drum hit or a hi hat.. set the midi tracks bus to pre fader and mute the original track and possibly have to mute the output of the bus to depending on what platform your useing.. the point is you want to have the midi track trigger to gate on the white noise to open with out hearing the sound of the trigger... then the final thing to do is bus the white noise track to a delay and have that delay be long with a high and low pass filter.. if done right you can get those washy wind sounds that will glide through your mix and sound liek really cool reverb atmosphere oh yah one last thing you also want to put a compressor directly on the white noise track and have it side chained to a bus thats input is the kick of your track.. that way the white noise will compress whenever the kick hits so it will be like a pulsing kinda feel..
white noise is essential for progressive its also cool to trigger white noise to hit whenever your snare hits to back it up... also having the kick side chain compress other elements of the track like a synth or pad is cool.. if you have it going on the right elements you will feel the whole track start to pulse |

well its beena long time since we used k_bbk basslines in our tracks..!
its more like kb_bk_b_k_bbk with some delays maybe.
chorus some times.
layered basses its something we do alot(me that is) using an offbass monotone bass for the deep side and a faster middle high bass to gain speed!

i used fruity loops as start
it has nice feature called "peak control"
this machine will detect input volume and send it as midi messege (in variety of ways , some setting can be tweaked)
so what i did (by athernian method) is to send all my percussion channels to send channel and have the peak controller there recieve the signal (but mute the output so no extra volume added to this channels)
then i opened white noise generator with 0 volume
and linked it to the 'peak' messege.
this plays with the volume in kind of very special rythms exacly with the percussion (or u can use it to duck it instead boost - work better with pads)
i didnt like the outcome so much , so i changed the white noise to saw osc and square in lower octave and got amazing groovy bassline very quickly.
very 'tight' feeling of vennection between all elements.

hey cool i actually never tried that with a bass cool idea!.. yah its definatly easy for the white noise to get out of hand but you can get it distant and "misty" sounding if you thin it out with eqs and filters. white noise has every frequency so you can do allot with it |
