I'll see what I can do for Gemini next year on the progressive thing. Maybe I can find a way to do the 1 night prog and 1 night full, or atleast a headliner. Thanks Kahn for your forever true hearted nature, Bom

Honestly, I would still have it rise up to "full speed" at some point throughout both nights. But as I said, 10pm-12pm is a really good timeslot for chill headliners. Then you can follow with some faster stuff.

Oh and that's GREAT to hear that somebody in the USA is booking Vibrasphere for their chillout.

I think vibrasphere is doing a trance set too at gaian if I'm not mistaken..

so that would fall under prog would it not?

= ]

on my list are also

Organix
the web (night dark tribal prog stuff)
Kino Oko
Ovnimoon
Jirah (not sure if you qualify this as prog or psy, or both)

alot of the already mentioned acts are on there of course as well. I'd love to see more progressive, but honestly the kids seem to come out for the dark and full on headliners, and as a promoter barely squeaking by on a margin (if your lucky enough!), if it comes down a prog headliner or sick deco, 9 times out of ten you are going to go with the deco.

I'd encourage more local djs to branch into prog to fill in the gaps and create an audience for the sound. I know I like to take my morning sets from full on psy into progressive before dropping to some smooth psydub for the afternoon.           .:.vaxination.:.

Yeah I've built up a nice collection of prog/tech/electro tunes recently. I used to listen to more stuff in this BPM range (euro stuff back in the day). But I'm just now finding some stuff that agrees with my musical tastes again. The more modern sounding prog (closer to mainstream I suppose you would say, but still deeper than most mainstream) is my favorite.

Personally, I would LOVE to play some progressive sets at parties. I haven't tried to market myself as a DJ in that realm up to this point. But as I said, I'd totally love to play this music in the right time slot/circumstance.

The other great thing about the modern prog is that it fits in really nicely other scenes as well. In the club scene, (particularly with the older crowd) that deep techie prog sounds VERY good on the ears. It also fits well earlier in the night in some of the mainstream electro/house type parties. The only issue here is that as I said in another post, our prog isn't made to be "peak time music." So in other words, I think more of the electro coming out of the mainstream scenes is designed to be played during peak hours. So even in other scenes where our prog will play fine, I still think it's best played as "build up" music to bigger timeslots. Of course this isn't necessarily a bad thing at all. Although I'll say, artists such as Ticon seem to be breaking that mold with some very "peak time" sounding tracks.

My party rocked BTW, you all missed it. A little salty but good fun. No ducks were harmed.

But seriously, in response to the OP:

Terrakroma Andrew started a thread like this a while back if you want to search for it. Along the lines of what ideas are there other than the current concept for music progression over a day/night. There may have been some cool ideas in there worth checking out. I don't really remember if that thread went anywhere.

Terrakroma in general needs serious props for focusing on trying to expand the progressive side of things in the psychedelic gathering community (with help and collaboration with other crews of course). You just gotta support them if you're interested in seeing this kind of thing continuing and growing. Already, at separate parties, they've brought Vibrasphere, Antix (collab with Green Sector), Shadow FX, and Animaltek (collab with Green Sector).

In response to the larger discussion of the place of prog in the psy scene:

I don't think all music is for all people and I don't think it should be. But I wouldn't want people in any psychedelic community to intentionally, or unintentionally, get systematically segregated from eachother and the opportunity to get exposed to different experiences by something as random as organizers following a formula just because it works. Because even though the current formula works, it causes a separation of daytime and nighttime crowds on account of the times they party and the times they sleep.

I don't really have any answers. It's tricky. Any mixing up of proggy stuff at nighttime is bound to ruffle feathers of people who are expecting more heavy stuff. I think any experimenting with changing up the formula at an event would require very very clearly stated plans of how it's going to be and a good explanation of why so that everyone attending knows what to expect and, hopefully, can put themselves in a state of mind to be receptive to the experience.

I'd love to see a reverse party with more of a campout / sleepover vibe using a range of music (but staying in the more trippy / psychedelic side of all the genres). 2 nights. First evening starts with funked up psy breaks, and trippy dubby stuff, leading into funky tech house at night, leading into tribal techno, leading into more psychedelic prog by early morning, then building to raging hard psytrance in the blistering sunlight all day long (moving from melodic->fullon->twisted->fullon->melodic), then dropping back to prog in the evening and moving to downtempo at night and finally pure ambient by late night / early morning.

But I don't know how many other people really appreciate all those forms of music as much as I do. The attendance could end up as low as my duck party.

That sounds like an interestingly good idea to me.           http://www.soundcloud.com/djKAHN
