Here in Toronto we have had a lot of progressive headliners at parties. I've seen six of the names listed in the original post. Perfect Stranger's DJ set was the best of the lot followed by Tegma and Vibrasphere live. Some of the others had no discernible live component in their sets and bored me TBH. That being said, I absolutely love when techno is on at peak time. Good techno, anyway.

Vibrasphere (in addition to their normal stuff, I would really like to see these guys throw down a CHILL-OUT SET. Their two 'Selected Downbeats' albums are fantastic imho.)

Gaian Mind 2009 has these bases covered. This will be the second time Androcell has been the chill headliner at Gaian Mind. Really looking foward to the Vibrasphere chillout set.
Rich (wichdokta) has booked me to play his events as a chill headliner twice and has treated me so right both times.
Chilluminati has booked twice as well...respect and thanks to all US and Canadian promoters who have taken a chance on my simple music.
Peace and frequencies,
Tyler

Nice, thanks. Did you possibly mean "chill time peak music"?

too much of the prog psy coming out these days has a generic techno influence, a lot of it works well in clubs but doesnt work so well outdoors.

All really depends on track selection, and individual DJ choices. I personally all for having a variety at a party. There should be a bit of everything to satisfy many tastes and make it a more positive journey. Peak time Techno? Well, it really comes down to many factors, such as the format of the party, venue, what time the party goes until, etc.
In regards to more progressive music at parties? I know US has a tendency of more dark, trauma-trance music at its festivals. With that said, I have noticed quite a few festivals have a respectful amount of Prog/ Tech. So looks like things are getting better . Just like Alexander (Basilisk) said, Toronto is predominantly a prog town. We certainly cannot complain about the amount of acts we have seen in the past few years. But then again, its all a regional thing. Hopefully soon U.S. will get to see the acts mentioned above.

I posted in the gemini thread earlier an idea of having one night be all prog-ish and the other night be all night/fullon but got poo-poohed
I totally agree that there is such a thing as peak hour progressive. |

Definitely a lot of spirallianz/midimiliz/the delta, electrypnose, x-dream, son kite is totally peak hour friendly other than the tempo (but you can speed it up of course ) |

But to be honest, the mainstream tech/electro/minimal that I hear is a lot LESS psychedelic, deep, technical, and beautiful than the so called "psy tech electro progressive" stuff. Sure, they consist of a lot of similar sounds. But the beat patterns to me sound fucked in a lot of the mainstream stuff. This is not to say I don't like some of the mainstream tech. But I like a lot more of the modern psy tech.
Also on the timeslot issue... I think that a prog headliner could work VERY well at a 10-12 timeslot. This gives people enough time to GET TO THE PARTY (assuming they haven't been there for a day already), and still enjoy the headliner. Not to mention it still gives plenty of time for a build up to faster, darker forms of trance during the night.
Several of the parties I've been to didn't have "trance" starting until after midnight.

Props to kahn for trying.
The rigid formula of what music, and what time, and what place that gets continuously regurgitated by this scene is myopically limiting.
The psychedelic experience is a spectrum of limitless possibilities.
I'm throwing a party on a raft in the ocean where the only sound will be emitted by ducks as we squeeze them under our armpits, and no one is invited.

I'll see what I can do for Gemini next year on the progressive thing. Maybe I can find a way to do the 1 night prog and 1 night full, or atleast a headliner. Thanks Kahn for your forever true hearted nature, Bom |
