There is a great full on bass tutorial here written by Mike A and I have learned a lot from it. I was wondering if any one could explain in such detail or give any information on how they make their progressive trance (type of plug-ins, structures, compression and EQ and so on)

there's not such a big difference in production... U prolly just want more sub and less mid for progressive... And u aren't cramped into a tiny set of rules, u have more freedom to develop the bass u want, cuz there's no 'standard' way of making a progressive bass
ofcourse, u can be creative with a full-on bass too, nobody's stopping u to be original...
In fact, the process to develop a good bass is about the same in every genre. The waves u choose, and the frequencies u want to attenuate differ ofcourse, but the basic modus opperandi (synth/sampler -> Comp -> EQ or synth/sampler -> EQ -> comp) is the same.
For fun u can add some fx like reverb or stereoDelay or ... , but u can do that on full-on basses too.
anyway, experiment!! That's what progressive trance is all about |

Thanks
What you said above is very true and helpful but I’m also looking for any extra info that could put me in the right direction and make my life easier.
for example I know some people prefer different bass vsts for different styles of full on (VB1 and other bass vsts).what do most progressive trance producers prefer to work with and how.
I enjoy learning and experimenting with sounds but I it helps allot when I am told if something is good and used by other.
Any info would be greatly appreciated

If u want lot's of sub, use a real analogue synth, or a VERY GOOD emulation, cuz u want to use the filter, with the resonance completely open. If u then lower the cutoff u'll hear that the sinewave from the filter will produce an enormous sub (if i do it with my juno-60 all my furniture starts shaking). just modulate the cutoff with an envelope, and gate the amplitude!! play with the attack to get those progressive bass-swoops and bumps... If u add distortion to this u have DnB basslines For psy u will have to cut a lot of sub, cuz those analogue filters really produce sub like nothing else!! |

yes indeed... But digital filters sound very thin when self-oscillating at such low frequencies... So u really need a good analogue filter or a very good emulation of an analogue filter
ofcourse i also use at least 1 other wave from an osc (mostly a sawtooth wave, but u can choose anything u want...) for the mids...
with my juno-60 this works like a charm... |
