yeah., i'm with feuerhake here.,
problem is that the sound of sea is a very complex sound.,
actually, it the sound of milions of bits of water smashing against each other and against rock.,
i dont think you can do that with a virus very well.,
creating the sound of running water is already quite complicated., but a good emulation sea is a lot more complex.,
i would start listening to the sea very precisely.,
try listening what is happening in the sound at different frequencies.
hope this helps a bit
greets.,

i wish i could use a sample, the thing is i have a project to do, and i must use noise in part of the project, and im not allowed to use samplesl. since i have the virus and an idea of something that i want to do with the project, i need to make at least something close to it, water i already recorded today in the bath. so thats solved. i think im pretty close to what i need now, basiclly i am going to record a few noises and build that beach noise from all diffrent noise sounds. but if any one got a good tipp, i will be more then happy... |

I don't know if the Virus has this, but have you tried various types of noise? One might be better suited than others.
You should be able to do the slowly pulsing "rumble-whoooshhhhhh..... rumble-whoooshhhhh...." of ocean with an amplitude envelope on some noise.
I think a wave tends to have more bass as it's crashing but then less as the wave rushes up the sand, so you might try automating a highpass filter to attenuate a little of the bass as the amplitude envelope peaks. Also maybe try having a second lowpass filter going from open to closing a little as the wave breaks.
Are you allowed to sample the synth? Really what you'll need are two noises that will have different construction: one of the wave breaking and rushing up the beach and the other of the wave going back out to sea. The second is quieter, without any bass/rumbling (probably just noise noise fading out to silence). If you could splice two patches on the synth together, this would help a lot.
An interesting project! Let us know if you can simulate the ocean with the Virus. Maybe you can do the typical tearing osc psytrance noises with it and claim it's "an ocean on an alien world"
Good luck! |

some roland synthesizers have that sound synthesized (and not sampled), a used to play with my XP-80 (before selling it) and as far as I can remeber it has that sound.
try to find one of those and take a look at the synthesis, but for sure a sample will sound much nicer and easier to do.
boom!
