I listen to lots of people discussing production, transparent sounds and so on…
My question is …. You know what’s coming…
So how do we achieve this at home…
Is there specific effects and dynamics that are used for leads, basses etc?
Is there some ground rules to psy production?

lol sadly you are probably right about the acid
I think the basis for making it is just diving in and making something totally from your head, forget what other people are making, dont try to copy any sort of style, make something new and origonal and it will do great things for you. |

A more healthy solution would be to use the search. You'll find lots of topics about compressors, equalizing and so on in this forum.

there might be only one ground rule for psytrance:
side-chain compression
and that only applies to full-on style bass
other than that, its a free for all of sonic madness!
keep adding various effects to your leads and see what happens. |

u dont need side-chaining, i get perfect kick-bass with no sidechaining, so i would definiterly not call that a rule....
wana know how to become a good psy producer...its all about thought process...thinking about what u are doing and what you are trying to achieve, plus understanding what shit you are using instead of blindly using some plugin....
experiment and spend alot of time on it and dont expect perfect results straight away....
I dont do the drugs....I AM the drugs |

good production dont come easy..
first you need good equipment: studio monitors, room acustics and good sound card.
then you need lots of hours in front of the computer improving yourself and get expirienced.
get knowledge about Eq, frequincies, waveforms and so on... it allways good to know what your dealing with and what you are doing.
most important is to know how you wanna sound like. knowing what you trying to get will get you closer.
good luck! |

the key to good production? use good samples, and hi pass everything other then kick and bass at about 700 hz, killer. |

I disagree ... sidechaining (as Colin said) is not necessary.
the MOST important thing though in my opinion is to make something cohesive, and to make each sound balanced - avoiding frequency clashes "sonice madness" needs to be more controlled than you think...
Thus EQs and compressors are the most important tools (how many times has this been said?)
Hi pass everything at 700Hz is a very silly idea... the bass only really punches hard up to about 450 Hz (apart from the click of the kick) the main.. however the bass tones themselves will usually be far lower, thus you will have about 300Hz of space in which practically NOTHING is happening...
anyway.. use your mind and your ears
