Well, let's start this out with a very simple problem I have. My speakers SUCK, they are everything but flat, and especially have trouble with giving accurate bass.
Now, other than that, production/mastering has always eluded me as an art. Using fruityloops and wavelab, what would be a good way for me to visualize everything and make everything "fit" together smoothly?
Should I use Sonic Foundry's Acid?
Should I raise the quality level of the waves and work only in offline editing?
Help! :) |

Well, you can't do much without even almost flat speakers. Just try to see that nothing clips... You can't do much again. You have to hear your sound. |

it is almost impossible to work on mastering without monitoring the sound properly. you can try playing back your track channel by channel on different systems, in order to get "there", but imagine how long it will take this way.
or ... you should lend the monitors from somebody else while mastering (or hire them for a day or 2)

Yeah, since obviously that's the only way the track will ever get mastered ;) |

it's all matter of eq like my good friend says
if you work in fruity you can try to put then all the track to cubase channel by channel. Then in cubase you make the eq mixing raising up or raising down channels to get the best sound. if it's not enough try putting it in t-racks and mastering there(but for this you have to buy/hire a good loudspeakers(monitors)) it's better to use cubase but you also have to get some good monitors
good luck and best wishes |

if you want your tracks to be taken seriously, than by all means, you should know how and what to use while mastering. ask ANYONE :) |
4 me mastrin' is the shit what dj at records company does !!!!
The "DJ" (sound engineer) at the record company only does the final touches. 99% of the sound work is yours.
masterin heheheh u man need a home studio and not monitors . harware EQ , monitors ( maybe couple of'em )
No. All you need is a pair of good monitors. That's all - no hardware eq, no couple pairs of monitores... |

Hi,,,,,,,well maybe u should leave the FL,,and move to Logic Or Cubase,,,,,,FL tracks tend to sound as inside a muffler. in my point of view u would save time and maybe money by changing the program u use for production,,,,, peace |

Mastering is truely difficult with bad monitoring!! Itīs like a cook without tongue!! But what you can do is: Load a brilliant produced track in a spectral analizer and compare it with youīre own! Itīs not a good way to work like that but maby you can get a little better results then!!:-)
Try "Free Filter". I donīt use it but lotīs of people tell me itīs good.
peace...:-) |

A. Hello ppl, haven't been on-line for a while. Good to see everything's still kickin'...
B. Asaf, as a low-budget solution (i.e, lower than buying monitors) You can get the AKG K 240 DF headphones. They are totally flat and cost 500 NIS approx. Sure, balance shouldn't be done on headphones, but after a while when you listen to music with these headphones, you kinda get the right feeling of how should music sound on them, and then you can mix/master you stuff using them. That's what I've been doing, and it goes pretty well so far. |
