What are your thoughts on producing music under the influence of Cannabis and such?
For inspiration I think it's an incredible tool and it just makes me so much more creative.
But on the downside, it does make me lazy and slow and I'm never sure if the outcome of my music will sound even reasonable the next day.

Nice Thread..
often after a weekend of psyparty i got the best mood to try something out of phase..but as soon as i get sobr i alway think sober about my music..what makes me more precise but way more limited..
so i think its all about combination and balancing..
again..good point..

i just realize that smoking only on weekends the effect its much stronger and i dont get that lazy, its a more euphoric feeling and the ideas flow quickler, but IMO the best moment to produce is when i came back from a party and im still rolling on acid, its like a battery fully charged
But anyway, i MUST be sober for some task |

my general state of existence is highly dependent on ganja.
like Elad, it's not about producing whilst stonered... it's about doing everything stonered
never tried to produce under the influence of anything else though. playing instruments is one thing, but producing is something else... |

Gave up smoking years ago as it made me really lazy and I stopped enjoying it. But I've been thinking lately of just trying it again in the studio to see if it does anything for me.
Apart from this fleeting desire to try it again, I'm always clean. Maybe a beer.. |

I'm sober most of the time. Smoking hash makes me too passive, and tripping makes me too distracted. Sometimes i tweak the mix of a final version of a track during the aftermath of a trip though, and i like to make new synth-patches in this state. |

when you're *really* into what you're doing the need for essentials can fade away... you know how it is, one minute you're really digging a new lead sound, then 20 hours later nothing has passed your lips except smoke and your bladder is 10x normal size, you're unwashed, unshaven, it's getting light again outside and you were supposed to go to work... yesterday AND today... but you ain't going nowhere |

90% of my tracks were produced while i've been sober. ganja or acid helps with ideas or while tweaking knobs, however like to mix down everything with clear mind and ear.

i gave up smoking too , before i was under the influence 24/7 ,if you are always stoned it become the normal state of your brain so it s like to be clean in a way ,it was not influencing my music a lot . |

nicotine + caffeine
happy info: there are two ways of producing a track.. a) compose and mix after, b) compose and mix on the run...
i am a b)
so, as Makus said.. you have to be sober while mixing

Considering that i live in the "all illegal substances paradise" a.k.a Amsterdam, i should probably be on the high side when producing-mixing-doing whatever? things. I tried it a few times with different "products" and never do it again. Besides that i get lazy and sleepy, over energetic or anything else, the most important is that i feel disconnected from what i'm creating. All these substances create an alternate state of consciousness and perception. For many people it works great for others not. If i am stoned or whatever and come up with a great idea, i'm not enjoying the feeling of creation as much as when i'm totally sober and fully aware and conscious about what i'm doing.
But after i finish producing then i go to the coffeshop just around the corner, buy the finest quality on the menu, get back-get stoned and dive into my latest creation for some alternate state of consciousness and perception A/B listening
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |
