i think kick and bass is the hardest thing in this
genre... it take ages to get some realy good
results.
focus on finishing tracks, thats the way, how you
get further.
cheers

Load a kick sample you like, pick a preset in Alien303 to match the tone of your track, draw out the patterns, eq them properly, sidechain if necessary and viola, you have a nice kick and bass. I think a lot of people over think/over work this part wayyyyyyy too much in the beginning. This will get you a good enough start.
There's plenty of other things in your track that you should spend time on besides kick and bass. Plus, you can always go back and change your kick and bass if it doesn't fit the rest of the track. Over time your ears will learn and your production skills will be at a level when you can do more, but not in the beginning.

No one wants to hear this, but you should really just make full tracks. Even if you don't like it..just keep going and within a few tracks you'll be a lot better. You don't have to send them to anyone or even keep them, but stopping because you can't get one part right isn't going to help you early on. Stick to easy stuff and standard patterns for percussion, use loops and presets, etc. for a while until you have the technical knowledge and patience to do exactly what you want.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

I could sit for days just to adjust the kick and baseline to get the very perfect sound i want. then i start making the rest of the track and during the time i always get overcreative and start making new sounds and thinking: oh i can do this and i can put this here. When im into like 5 minutes of the track i realize ive made sound so much out of the box that the kick and baseline i spent days creating didnt even fit to the rest of the track.
So now when i start to create a new tune, i open a 32 note pattern and start to make synths, leads, pads, more synths, gates e.t.c. Then start adding stabs and stuff. When i got my tune i start creating my baseline to fit the track and then the kick to fit the baseline.
Thats my prod teknique |
