People often only think about headphones, but what is needed as well for a balanced sound and dependable soundstage is a good quality DAC. Most of the DAC's you get built into cheap sound cards are terrible, and even some high end audio interfaces have low end DAC's and headphone preamps. I recommend coupling a good pair of headphones with a good dac.
The HRT Music streamer 2+ I have is fantastic and makes headphone mixing and monitoring much more tolerable.

USB-connected make me sceptical , highend dacs sound often worst via usb compared to their aes or spdif connection

As for USB, the better DAC's have asynchronous mode operation which eliminates timing errors (jitter).

They can be used either together or separate to a sound card in the DAW select output as DAC.

I produce and mix with headphones mostly for several years. It's all a matter of how you know your gear...

When I check on monitors, I change almost nothing usually.

beats by dr dre have an exageratted ammount of bass in them, it's more appropriate to listening music, not making it, hence the 'comercial thing'

You want as linear as possible freq response to produce. Exaggerated bass or mid can ruin a mix, and make it quite impossible to balance.

For a similar price as the Dr Dre, yet a world away dynamically and have a great linear response...

Also I recommend the HD800's for music production, if you really want to monitor with detail.

thank you disciple for the tips, one question though.. wich one would you buy if you produced both club and psytrance? considering the need to monitor not only the lows but the highs as well..

For Dj'ing you need closed back, the two I mentioned have open. there is no perfect pair that will do both situations well (that I have found). The HD25-1 ii are good for DJing and music listening, but for monitoring fall a little short. They have fully replaceable parts so you never need to worry about going crazy with them on.

Best thing to do is to try some out if you can.

I still have my Sennheiser HD-25, although they are more detailed, I prefer my Pionner HDJ-1500 as listening and writing music is far more enjoyable. Obviously my views on using DJ headphones to write music, are based on the very important fact that I am going to mix it in my studio monitors later on.
