Ok I am going now in studio to try it and see what it changes with Ableton.
Anyway I would like to hear more about users using only Reason to produce, I belive the sound can be better even using Reason (I'm not so good at eq..)

imho reason is good but its internal plugins are not so good (except for Redrum and the samplers). |

Bhodisattva 14:20 uses Reason only, and he literally wrote the book on it, he just got published... I think that is the book that was refered to earlier, I think that was a mistake about Baphomet Engine unless he ALSO wrote a book on Reason.
I'm sure Bodhi would give you some tips if you PM him or something.
I mean... it CAN be done, but... the 3rd party plugins that are out there are just so good I couldn't limit myself to Reason. However Bodhi's example shows that you can do professional sounding stuff with Reason if you're dedicated. But a lot more people use Cubase/Logic + VSTs so there will be a lot more advice out there for these other sequencers.

Latest book is Kurt Kurasaski's Power Tools for Reason 3. I got an advance copy from the author but i think it's available on Amazon now. Chapter 6 "Dynamics Effects" and Chapter 13 "Mastering" address many of those issues. The other chapters are in depth tutorials for sound creation and effects processing. This book has changed the way I think about using reason for psy production.

Honestly I think Reason is awesome .
I'v been using it for like 4 years now.
the subtractor and malstrom rock for synths & oscilating.
the redrum pattern sequencer kicks ass...
I can pull some pretty tight synths out of subtr. and malst.
The only thing that I don't like is i am starting to run out of synths !....but all I do is go and make synths into ableton live while playing a 8 bar .wav file of my bass n beat into live....so it matches well...if i want to do automation on that synth i make automation in ableton...save it as 8 or 16 bar...however long the automation is and then i save it as .wav and sample it into reason =)
the sound in reason is ok...I might have a few rough edges but i can get around it...just takes time...
The sequencer is so user friendly and nice..
you can see your hole track sequenced in one window.
and unlike other programs to automate u just right click the nob you want and do edit automation and it brings you to the automation window...where in cubase, ableton etc...you gotta find the name of the nob...wich...well...is tottaly gay.
here's what i can do in reason...

if you think reason is bad..well..im about to release tracks on psy labels very soon with reason made tracks.
Peace! |

Yes Reason is awesome but as you said after a while (I'm producing with reason since the first version) the sounds are always the same.
With the introduction of the combinator you can do great things but it always sounded as a reason song (to me).
Let's say that dynamics in sound aren't really my passion.. And in reason I never found the right way to create that good power in my melodies
Anyway your song sounds cool, mabye you have the redrum a little bit too much patternizzed but's ok.

the reason sound engine has its color, i think it makes the sound a little muffeld, it takes aways the clarity.
But there are probably ways around it..
dont think, now i have to leave this program and start over with something new.
What you learn is what you learn..
learn something new and add it together..
like Boobytrip says...
if you like the sequencer in reason then its a little difficult... cuase its a hazzel to export and import and all that..
you should
look at lots of sequncers, maybe you find some that you like...
i can recommend,
Cubase, Logic, Samplitude, Protools,
i havent tried Digital preformer but i would like to..

"The fact is that I know that I can do much more things with another sequencer but I really don't like the other program sequencer. "
thats fine You can make your entire track in reason just rewire the whole mixer into one channel and do all the midi in reason just you should make your bass and sample your kick through the other sequencer plus hey you can just drag audio file to a imeline nd add all the exf you want trust me I argued for reason forever but once i got cubase and rewired reason i put my foot in my mouth and better sound came from my speakers dont limit yourself i love the subtractor and couldmake tons of tracks using only it but some of the plugins are great too. just because you are getting tracks released on psy labels doesnt mean its the best it could be it means its good enough to get released on psy labels. if thats your only goal so be t but if one day you want to go to a hardware synth hey you can or if you want to do some remixes or whatever yuo have the option to drag in the audio..
all im saying is production has to be about stretching your personal limits even if its uncomfortable not working within your comfort zone this is how you progress.
dont let a a programs built in limits hold back your mind.

Well thanks I'm proud of the production but I'm not proud of the sound power/quality
Right now I started working with ableton and I feel much better (the seq is getting more friendly now )
@FaceHead: As you said I don't want program limits to hold my mind and that's why I started working with Ableton (I feel more free now, but less confortable).
Right now I prefer feeling free than confortable!

exactly, you can always rewire!
export some .wav file directly from reason and analyze its form. the wave gets all "square". now do some rewire?
i used to have a old skool friend who was deep into drum n bass production. unhappy with reason sound engine he began to send reasons audio into his dj mixer (wich have some powerfull pre amps) and then back into his computer (soundforge) for recording. then he showed me the wav file exported directly from reason and the wav file recorded via soundforge. the one sampled via the mixer was waaaaay better looking and sounding.
basically, half the producers i know use the Reason3 X Cubase combo. reason has some awesome capabilities (tell me a better drummachine than redrum..) and obviously subtractor is a pretty capable virtual synth, not to mention the combinators and the friendly interface (very undestandable even in high entheogenic plateaus).
if reason 4 comes up with vst support and a better sound engine, well, nuff said...

i think reason 3 is the most famous software about electronic music, tracks are made on this software, can mastered finaly and have perfect sound, keep using it and if some day u ll need better quality for some track u want, is possible...
start using cubase
