Hi there everybody!

I wanted know how many of you produce using propellerheads reason and what do you think about it.

I use only reason for producing my songs and I think you can do very good things with it. In the latest times I am taking out very nice sounds from the subtractor synth!

You can hear my latest 3 demo songs that I've made all in reason (no mastering but the default reason 3 mastering suite):

http://rasael.bervini.net/weedsmoker.mp3
http://rasael.bervini.net/primary.mp3

My future productions may be different, I've thinked to sample external basses and synthlines with vst and ext. synths and then put them back in reason as samples since I really don't want to leave that sequencer!           --

Truth is that intention is good, but no power.

yep, that's the biggest gap! But can't be resolved with some good mastering?           --

Some time ago, i think it was Baphomet Engine posted here about a book he wrote about Reason 3.

I think it is "thomson course technology-reason 3 -overdrive!". There u get much infos of producing with reason 3.

Baphomet Engine uses Reason 3 for his music i think, and it is very good music.

So u can do really good powerful music with it

Crewl tracks ! I think you prove that you can write serious stuff in Reason. I use Reason as well, but only for a few tasks.

But why would you want to restrict yourself to just one program ? Different programs are suited for different tasks if you ask me.

Thanks Boobytrip!

as "il morto" said I need to have more power in the tracks

Anyway as "il morto" said I can't get a good mood with reason. I have the ideas but I need the power!

That's why I'm thinking to start composing with Ableton Live since I would like to start using VST for more synths & fx.

The problem is that I don't want to leave the reason sequencer and I really don't like the Ableton Live sequencer but mabye I just have to get used to it.

Anyway Reason is a great baseline and I have learn a lot of stuff about music & synth with it.

Just export the loops you sequence in Reason as wavs and use those in Ableton ?

I have already used this way in the past to make a liveset but the problem is that you can feel that the music is made in loops and it's not pasted well togheter.

You can hear an example on:
http://www.ctgmusic.com/song.php?id=9237

(Please note that it was my old liveset, has you can hear the sound is more crappy. Anyway I was also drunk in that party and you can hear big errors in it..)           --

All I used to use is reason 3 and its great you get some really gritty leads and interesting fx but im sure youve heard this before. go to cubase or logic. The low end is so much thicker sounding and with the audio capabilities you cand lose not to mention tons of plugins and rewire I made about 8 tracks all in reason and now I have to go back and fix them all or throw them out because reason tracks cant match the depth of these new cubase ones Ive been workinng on as soon as I put a couple out this way people started taking me more seriously and I was more proud of my music. oh just read the other reply ya ableton is ok too but if you want the real deal Cubase Logic Nuendo I know they seem like a pain with cpu comsumption and learning curve I am a textbook example of someone who didnt want to switch didnt want to tackle one of those programs because it seemed like a monumental task but im damn happy I did. I still use reason for most of my leads and alot of sound fx but i will always to the kick and bass in cubase including most sampling

reason is the most stronger and stable modullar sequencer but i really hate it's sound engine..
you can rewire the reason to Cubase sx and make it's sound's better...           ================

The fact is that I know that I can do much more things with another sequencer but I really don't like the other program sequencer.

Even if they are similar to Reason seq. you can't have a full view of what is happening in the track like in props and that's what I really miss! I hope that in the future reason will be a vst and midi host (That's would be GREAT)

Anyway I am already VERY proud of my music with Reason, I'm afraid that if I will change application then my music quality will decrease..           --

i dont want disappoint you but your sound quality on your music is bad...
the bass line is not tight, your kick sound's closed, your mix is unstable... and all of the samples in the track sound's bad (well, the reason dont have good equalizer), maby if you will change your sequencer the sound will be better...
try this if it's will not be good for you you can allways return to reason...           ================

Yep, don't talk me about the sound quality since I have a crappy monitor and I can't afford to a better one now.. I'm proud of what I can do (I produce psytrance from about 1.5year) but not of the sound quality...

Anyway I will try to rewire and mix the track in another seq. using eq & fx from the host.

You think that simply rewiring the sounds to another host will change the sound quality?

PS. And what do you mean about the tight bassline?           --

i dont think that if you rewire the reason to cubase the sound will automaticlly sound's better...
you have to use eq to make it's sound's better..
(try the Waves plugin's)...
Tight BassLine is a bass line that sound's good with good EQ work and a good Compressor work...           ================
