3. When u are in the groove of writing stuff, dont worry about Eq-ing, compresing, etc,. Leave that for later. Keep ur brain going by writing as much as possible. [...]

5. This one is important: let ur imagination lead the way. Don't just jam randomly. Focus on having ur brain guide u on where to go next. Instead of just slamming the keyboard with random notes, listen to ur existing song and let it inspire u to guide to what to do next.

Don't be sad and depressed, happy brings music.

i once made a song while sad and depressed, it's even still online... It can be a catharsis that's just as powerfull as being happy.

it's the song called 'consuming anguish'

I still like it, and i can't get to that sound anymore since i'm out of my depression... Just goes to show...

Try to do moment were you let only creativity going on and other moment when you concentrate yourself on sound production and trying to getting out the best from what you have created...

Then when you are putting down your ideas, don't start to eq, compress, etc, but just put down until you finish the inspiration.

- Learn and use the shortcuts! If you donŽt do this by now, you will be amazed who much time you can save and how things flow much easily once you get yourself mechanized to use them - One hand on the mouse other on keyboard at all times .

Lol, I get really stressed when I work with ppl that use no shortcuts, they take ages to do anything!

@orca

yes i know what you mean i think, i try to explain it with "listen inside of you". sometimes i listen to the loop or arrangement-part of the track, sit there relaxed and sometimes i can "hear" what needs to be there.
keeping the idea and try to transfer it into the production is not easy, but possible and if realised it becomes a very satisfying thing. such a way of producing needs 2 fundaments in my eyes:
- sensible focus to catch the "muse", listen to her.
- you must know your studio and know the technic to realise an idea of a sound into a real sound.

if the muse isnt there, you will get a hard time... but sometimes you must dig trough tons of frustrating crap to find the pearl which leads your production into a new spectrum of ideas and a new way the track can go. this is why "never give up" is very important too.

To add to this is, don't sit down too often, stand up while you tweak and let your ideas guide you. Also make longer recordings since it's easier to get the story out and edit after you got something to work with. This will give you more interesting and variating melodies and sequences. If you're not a master to program good melodies (we're all different, I'm a little bit of both, hehe) Be active as much as you can. A good tip is to place your keyboard a little higher up. I have mine on a stand, will get the X-station and make it work to jam with This is how I get great spirit, of course I often work too much while sitting down but I want to stand up more.. and Jam!!

Retakes can get tendious but its just to grab them by the horns, like somebody said, do the stuff direct...hard but true, but dont go to extremes.. hehe

Also I think it all depends on which seriosity level you put yourself on with the project you currently work on. Sometimes it's fun to not have any commitments and just jam away, you can then later on decide whether you want to make a full story out of it if there is more to express..

It's sometimes better to have a few sessions of muse and then feel more freeley about them, and only pick out the pearls... like you say kitnamor
