pH_ - i didnt mean that you should delete the things from your harddrive... only delete them from the project and save as a new file... and i was refering to singel elements not a complete savefile
i have lots of old stuff on Cd, havent done me no good yet... but maybe one day.. if the cds are intact..
your method does not support "feng shui" hehe |

when im making a track, i SEE the party where im playing it at, and i develop the track to please the people i see dancing in my head....
that way its a killer before it ever kills.

I posted this on a diff forum regarding how to not get writer's block and be stuck on a song forever and not be productive:
1. before you do anything, work on the beat and make it full and as good as possible. if u truly truly feel the groove of ur beat and are inspired by it, u r MUCH more likely to trigger new ideas into the mix. Winging the beat usually really hurts me creatively, so make sure u get really excited about ur beat loop.
2. i dont know what software you are using but I use Cubase SX3 with Reason rewired. For me, Reason is the ultimate sketchpad for ideas. Instead of being bogged down by huge VSTs and CPU issues, you can get a lot done in Reason quickly, just jam out ideas, then later translate big parts in Cubase or another sequencer. This has really helped me.
3. When u are in the groove of writing stuff, dont worry about Eq-ing, compresing, etc,. Leave that for later. Keep ur brain going by writing as much as possible. I find, either I can write most of the parts of a track in a matter of hours, or can't do it at all. When it seems ur fried and u cant think of anything, just STOP. Take a break and get away with it. And if ur still itching to do music, work on making patches or discovering new soudns that u can have in the future.
4. When you are browsing synth patches, if u stumble upon awesome sounds SAVE them instantly, especially if its not the type of sound you are looking for. Keep accumulating a collection of patches that inspire u for future use.
5. This one is important: let ur imagination lead the way. Don't just jam randomly. Focus on having ur brain guide u on where to go next. Instead of just slamming the keyboard with random notes, listen to ur existing song and let it inspire u to guide to what to do next.
6. Listen to the music thats really really influencing u lately. Try to re-create fresh new sounds ur hearing. It prob wont sound lke theirs but will prob lead u to a new path.

great tips
-always know what u want to achieve. then its much easier to know whats good or whats bad for this track if u know how u wanna sound adventually.
-love your work. i dont think its working any other way.
-dance your music to try if its catch u (best is day or 2 without listen and then just play it full volume )

Yeah, cool thread simple but extremelly important advices
- Keep your computer tidy, specially samples well organized in meaningful directories, (eg. drums-hihats/snares/kicks/..., voice samples, fx) this will save a lot of time and will make you use your resources much more efficiently. |

what does that mean?

this means that a natural drummer always play different velocity-sets or multiple drums. same with hihats. drums and hh sound much better played in context with additional percussion/drum elements. just adding a single open hihat in offbeat for example or just adding a snare on every second beat without any additional elements will sound dry and static. just a few artists are realy able to arrange drumloops with a single drumsound in a sweet way, lish and atmos for example are masters of minimal sound in my eyes. |
