do you really need a good pair of headphones in music production?
i mean, you have monitors. they supposed to give you the clean sound of your mix, so why do you need headphones?
the only thing that comes to me is that headphones needed at nights
(people go to sleep, dont wake them! shhh)

i use headfones only for paning and check noiz 
but good quality Studio monitors shoold be sufishent
you can allwase add more equepment as deep as your pocket go's

Headphones are more accurate since they are closed from background noises, you can hear using decent headphones the hell of samples, it is easier to spot not needed parts of equalization and much more. Furthermore you have another audible source which can show you some indications. Monitors are not ultimate sounding, one more source can only help when been used properly.
Decent monitors should have proper stereo imagining and some noise in some cases is wanted one because polishing the samples at the end will create a lack of connection in the mix in between all elements. So headphones should be used wise.
Basically heaphones is like zooming the audible signal, we all use zoom while working in Cubase, Photoshop or Reason because your eyes spot difference better while object zoomed, same goes for our ears. Just we need to remember that the last and the mass source of playback will be big speakers in 90% of cases, so we should concentrate on these rather background noises heard with headphones only. |
