hi

i am in a situation where i can't easyly decide whats best to do. so maybe you can help me with ur suggestions. some month ago a friend, don't know her very well, was asked if she would know someone who plays a live act for a xmas party. she said that i can play and called me later and told me. i was happy about a gig on a party on xmas. but i waited till last weekend that someone of the organizers would get in contact with me to talk about it. no one called, not really a problem i was stressed that time anyway, so i called the party hotline and it seems that one of the organizers was on the other side. after i told him who i am he sounded suddenly a bit different and told me he had not timetable yet (i didn't called for a timetable anyway) and that he got one call on the other line. so he asked me to send him my mobile number, what i did, and told me that he would call back later. i think it is now 6 days ago, and still no call and in two days is the party. my name is on the flyers and timetable - they don't even know how long my act is and just wrote 1 hour and i need at least two hours to play a nice story.

So the prob is that we didn't talk about anything and it seems they expect me to come and play!? Would u play there?
I mean i always like to play on a good soundsystem, and i play for free or travel expenses when it isn't a big commercial party, but here it is a big party and they take 15€ entry.

Anyone got ever in a situation like this?

Same situation as Jesus Raves' thread. I wouldn't go.

Party organizers should be serious. If they do shit, don't bother working with them, imo.           Triplag Music

These things happen when you rely on friends, that you dont know so well, and when you are not in direct contract with the organiser you are supposed to play.

Sorry to say you caused this situation to yourself mate.

More careful next time.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Thanks so far

Yes, i think i won't go there..

Detox i don't see it as my fault. My friend, i like her because we send mostly on the same wave, just told someone that i do a live act, as she sees it a good one, and this i am sure she gave him my number as i did some days ago - so all the organizer had to do was to call me and talk about the party and conditions... and i really dunno whats up with these guys..

i can't play there, else i am sure i will feel used            Signature

Dear EYB with all the respect bookings dont get confirmed this way.

Serious bookings between serious promoters and serious artists take place directly between them, the promoter asks you to play, you tell him what you want in exchange for your artistic skills,he either aggrees or disaggrees with your terms and life goes on.

A friend who is not really a friend of yours cant confirm a booking with someone you dont know and you are not in contact with.

This is 100% your fault.

Its ok mistakes happen mate, just learn from them and try not to repeat them.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Any time this has happened to me it was bad news to go ahead with the party... basically if an organizer isn't organized enough to devote the small amount of time to talking to you and firming up the communication after a shaky start, it's time to bail. Although it may be a pain, if you have the possibility of posting a simple explanation on a few big forums where the event is being advertised, this may help save your name from any bad dealings that happen after people head out to the event. The key here is to keep it completely factual and drama-free: "the promoter never confirmed the booking with me and as a result I will not be playing at this event" or something along those lines.

The only times this has gone really wrong with me was when I gave in and said "well... okay, let's try to make this work." Big mistake.

Hey man don't even think of going there! The promoters should be serious people which respect the artist and their music, from what you have said they only want the money! So i think if i were you i would not go man...
