Ive read the manual, seen examples online, it seems pretty damn straight forward. Yet I cannot get it to work! SO I want to see if my Cubase has a major bug in it or whether im dumb and can't figure it out. Check this example:
I imported a Drum n Bass loop (prob at around 160-180 bpm) into a Progressive tune I made (136 bpm). I have my kick/bassline layed out across 1 bar. lets say from bar 1 to bar 2. The drumnbass loop obviously doesn't extend the full bar since its playing at much faster bpm. SO I switch to 120 bpm Fixed tempo mode. I select the Timestretch tool on the bar up top. Now I am focused on the Dnb LOop channel, and I try to drag bar 2 close in (towards the left) to match up to where the Drumnbass loop ends. But what happens is, the WHOLE view moves with my mouse,so theres no progress. As bar 2 moves to the left, bar 1 does too. So my timewarp isnt doing anything, just scrolling!
Any ideas??? Im going nuts over this! |

Maybe I can help u...
Do u want to make the loop(170bpm) to be played at 136 right? And I assume the loop is perfect cutted.
So, u have the project at 136, with 1bar of kick bass. The loop is smaller(as it is faster). Choose the "time strecht" tool(press number "1" any times u need to choose it). So now go to the loop, put the arrow at the botton right part of the block-event(sample). U will see the "time strecht" arrow. Now just drag the sample to fit the bar.
Looks like the same as u describe, but maybe u are missing something...

Select the loop length to the 1 bar of your kick.
Instead of doing the arrow-drag method for time stretch, right-click on the drum sample and select time stretch from the audio menu that pops open.
The full time strech menu should have the variety of algorhythms, change the setting there to "fit to locator range" or something to that effect. Does that produce the same problem?

thanks for replying.
Aeon: timestretch works fine but that implies I know the bpm of the loop im trying to stretch. If I knew the bpm this wouldnt be a problem. The point of timeWARP is that I dont need to know the bpm.
SMS: thats what I've been reading but theres no seperate arrow icon when I hover over the sample. Theres just this weird stick like icon that is displayed regardless of where I am on the project view.
What does the icon look like? Are using Cubase on PC? |

The Time Warp tool changes the project tempo; once you've selected it you can drag bar lines in the project window to line them up with the end of your drum loop. You'll need to fix the tempo at the beginning of the loop so go into the Tempo Track (cntrl-click in the tempo area of the transport) and create a tempo event at the bar where the loop starts. Then when you drag the bar lines with the Time Warp toop, the bar at the start of the loop should stay where it is.
I think.

oh i had no idea u could click on Set Locators to range and then it does it. The bpms are relative so I thought it wasnt working when I tried it before but it fit my loop in perfectly to the bars. Thanks Aeon!
Colin: thans for the tip ill try this also. the timestretch thingy seems to do nicely for now tho.
Thanks everybody |
