hey everyone, i recently bought a used nord rack 2x and have been trying to get it to run with logic pro 7 through my interface but have been running into some problems..

so the first thing i did was create a midi inst. and assigned it to go out of my midi port and connected that to my nord.
then i plug the outputs of the nord back into line input 3 and 4 on my presonus firepod interface.

so now when i play the midi keyboard i get sound coming into logic pro the problem is i havn;t assigned or record armed any audio tracks for the sound to actually be entering the signal path. i can hear the sound of the synth whenever i play it and i can't even see the sound coming out of my master fader. Its like for some reason the midi instrument knows that i am sending the signal back into the interface and is feeding it to monitors separate from any output.. so you can see where this becomes a problem because then in order to put a compressor or soemthing on it i have to assign the input of an audio track to be 3/4 but then i am hearing double for some reason. i just want to be able to have the audio coming into a separate audio track without hearing the output of the mid instrument.. which i dont even know how possible because all it is is just midi information being sent out of my interface it should have no connection with whatever audio i choose to route into the interface.. there is definatly an aspect of this i am missing

also i noticed that even tho it says that the outputs of the nord are line level.. the signal is very weak and i have to put them through the preamps to get a nice fat sound which shouldn't be should it?

if anyone knows anything about this help would be much apriciated

thanks!

Hi dude.

Your problem consists of 2 things.

1. You have "direct monitoring" or something similar enabled on your Firepod. You should have a knob (or fader somewhere) allowing you to mix the direct signal (what comes out of your Nord) and the signal coming from you computer (Logic). It is usually used to compensate for latencies in playback while recording.
What you want to do it to set this option in a way that you will not hear anything when you play the nord (the direct signal is not mixed with the main output).

2. In Logic, use an Audio Channel, Arm the track (the red button) and play the Nord. If you don't hear anything, you're trying to listen to the record the wrong input. Change it to 3-4 and try again etc.
When you can hear the nord, you've got it right.

Now you can start learning about latencies

yes about problem number 1 u probably just need to mute the direct "line in" so in case that logic is not working u cant hear it
then after open logic just configure the input channels and u should see it and be able to have fx on it , what turns it to double fun

i wouldnt worry to much about latency since first usualy its not noticeable so quickly... also u have to record audio since its hardware and then u can sync the wav back 10MS or by eye to the grid and all should be fine.. unless offcourse u play keys and not midi.. then more then 10MS will bother you since u hear what u play in tiny delay and its very confusing
