problems with logic--me going nuts!!

i have a little problem...well its rather a big one and its f***ing pissing me off all the time.
i use logic 5 for music production, on a laptop (6months old) 2.3GHz, 512MB ram.....which i consider to be ok configuration for music production purposes.
it all worked fine at the begining, sometimes there was this error 10011 (system overload) which ofcourse is kinda normal thing to happen sometimes.
now however, i cant work for more than 3min on my track because the programe and the comp. keep crushing.it just works at the begining when i turn on the programe, and then after 2-3mins the engine of the laptop starts being lazy, and so i cant continue for more than a second because i keep recieving the system overload (even if only one instrument is playing-all the rest are off). this started happening about more than a month ago....but then it was rather periodical (work 5 mins than dont work for another 5...).
ive optimaised the comp.for max performance...it got better for 2-3days and it didnt seem to have problems with anything else exept LOGIC....untill few days ago when the laptop started turning itself off randomly, and thus i loose whatever im doing in that moment (not nececarily music related stuff).....even when just windows media player is on.

so i was just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience or maybe anybody could lead me to the solution of this problem.
btw i used to chnge the "priority" of logic from normal to "above normal" or "high"....so du u think that common priority cahnges could cause this instability? but why then all the programs work just fine and just logic is the one that uses shit loads of CPU and still cant work for more than 5 mins.???!!!
or do u maybe think that there is something wrong with the coolers (they seem ok tho), or maybe i need more power......????but still...i cant even play one bloody instrument without that overload error msg.

its so annoying..coz i cant finish my track, i like it but simply cannot work as there is always a problem occuring and fucking all my ideas! this is how it goes:
i do something-->problem
continue something else in 3 days, work for a while-->problem again-->loose inspiration and will for music production+my track looks messy as hell due to this inconsistency

also, there is no way of recording the track, even instrument by instrument seperately...aaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

just to let u know that there is no virus or something...as i havent connected it to the net, nor i have recorded something recently which hasnt been scanned.also havent changed any options in logic, so it should work as good as it worked b4.

sorry for being so long tho, hope somebody could help me out.

Hi fella!
What a problem!
Well..i know that 512 mb is not a great amountage of ram. Althought this is not the kind of crash/problem that a litte memory gonna do.
First: what computer are u using. Mac or Pc?
Are u using an external interface? Usb or firewire?
And finally. Is you Logic cracked or are official?
With this infos maybe we can help u faster...

Hi andrejsid,

Are you using Windows XP?
Because if you do then you should check some things in Xp setup.Unfortunately i had the same problem a few weeks ago, here you can find some tips - http://www.pcmus.com/TweakXP.htm

You should at least check that you have "background services" selected and you should also take all the visual effects off.I did this and had no problems anymore with overloads.

Sounds like you have a memory leak.

My guess is that your track is using a plugin with a bug in it that causes all the system memory to get gradually used up causing the PC to fall over.

Save your project as different name and go through switching off all of your plugins and see if it still happens. Start by bypassing all of them so you just have your audio playing, and if it still crashes actually remove them from the plugin slots, save, reboot and check again. If the song [or whats left of it] will play without any plugins loaded, you now know that one of your plugins is suspect and then it is just a matter of trial and error - isolating which plugin is causing the problem. If it is still crashing i would suggest that you have a corrupt driver somewhere - graphics card or sound card most likely. Sometimes Windows freaks out and eats it's own system drivers for no apparent reason. Try updating all of your system drivers [sound/gfx/network/etc etc ]. If all else fails you can always re-install Logic or even Windows itself.

My money is on a dodgy 3rd party VST plugin somwhere in your song.

might be some plugin you installed. i had a similar problem with windows xp also, i kept stuffing my machine with tones of plugins and i always wound up with cpu overload and error messages, what i did was formatting my pc and got a pro-soundcard. i dont have this problem anymore, although some plugins slow the shit outta the processor.. still, but dont get error msg. but you should do what OTT suggested, might straighten things up for you.
good luck

thanx for the replies mates!!!

i,ve tried many things b4, have tweaked my windows and followed all those tips fresh gave me.thats something ive done long time ago.

OTT, thanx for the tip man, i've thought of it as well, havent done what u say i should, but have tried playing an empty track or just with 1audio but it still didn't work. well, it did work and than it stopped (which is what it does when it has shit loads of pluginns on..the same thing).
it could be something related to logic itself and plugins etc, but i doubt it because if it were, i wouldnt face any problems when playing only one instrument (or just audio), as i didnt at the begining.

what i've noticed is that when i turn on any other programe, it works properly, but when i turn on logic (no matter if its an existing track or a new file) after few mins the "SYSTEM IDDLE PROCESS" turns on and never stops (and it should actually).i can even feel it through the sound of the machine, and so i can predict when logic is about to crush.it just seems like the comp. is not 'trying' to boost some cpu for logic...becomes lazy when i turn on logic(hehee..this sounds a bit lame but thats just my impression, otherwize why would the iddle process turn on and dont allow for logic to use the amount of power it needs).

it was ok till a month ago when this was happening periodically, but now it sometimes takes less than a minute of working b4 i get the system overload error msg......after that i keep recieving the same msg whenever i press play no matter if there are any instruments plugged or its just an empty track.so if i leave logic on for the whole day and try playing something for the whole day, it wouldnt work, exept in those short moments when i first turn it on)

i know that i have to buy a sound card (dont have any, just the stupid sound blaster), and maybe more RAM, and i will do that at some point(soon i hope), but im worried if this continues happening even after i purchase them. it was perfectly fine at the begining...and havent changed nor installed many things since then so i just cant detect what the error is.

i reckon the best way to deal with it would be to reinstall windows....although the problem does not seem to be very much related to windows....

btw, whenever i play music or film on the laptop, it turns off by itself after a while...and if i turn it on again straight away-it gets stuck-nothing works and what i'm left with is to wait for the batery to empty totally in order to turn it off...

totally fucked up...

thx for the replies again!!!           Why u little !!!

sounds like u got a celeron processor, or something like it . they totaly suck. but if you dont, i suggest u format it, and try again. laptops tend to crash more often than desktops imo. i say it cuz i had one, but too old though.
well good luck again

I just dealt with this same issue man and I hear ya...
It sucks!! I just reformatted my hd and re installed windows. I am beginning to reinstall most of my synths and see if it happens then. I did notice that the error I kept having when it restarted was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and Windows did eat several of it's drivers. As soon as I re install the rest of the synths that I use, I will let you know what happened.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Also weird logic problems. I use mac, and don't really have a problem, but two of my good friends use Logic 5.5 on Windows XP.

Well, were using it. But one day Logic -CRASHED- and now doesn't even start up anymore. When you double-click on the Logic icon the splash screen comes up, and it starts to load, then just crashes.

Any ideas?

Apologies for thread hijack.
