Hi all!
A year ago a friend buy a headphone in portugal to me...is a Sennnheiser HD-280-13..
That headphone have 2 models...the HD-280 and the HD280-13...the diference between that 2 phones is...
The HD-280 have a impedance of 64 Ohms..and the other HD280-13 have a Hi impedance of 300Ohms...
But my friend donīt see this on the shop time, and buy to me the 280-13 model, with Hi impedance...and when i put the phones directly on my audio interface (Presonus Firebox) I feel a distorted sound...also in low volume, the sound comes cliping...and without any low freqs...i need press the phones in my head/ear to hear the low freqs...
I think that is because the hi headphone impedance...
Have a good way to get the clean sound using this impedance? A preamp headphone like Powerclick or something? I need to use that headphones, otherwise I will need get a new...but i donīt have money now, and need the headphones to midnight productions in my apartament hehehe...my neighbors donīt like my 12 inch Sub...and my Alesis monitors...i donīt know why...
Any tips ??
Thanks
Natan

usually this cant be an impedance problem. headphones outputs on audio interface usually got an impedance of around 50-300 Ohms, although this isnt stated that often.
but a difference of ~200 Ohms doesnt result in distortion, usually its just a difference in loudness. you need a much bigger difference to get a real distorted sound, or a change in the frequency response etc.
I'd doubt something else is wrong with either the headphones or the interface.

You're generally less likely to have distortion problems with high impedance headphones, since most op amps will work best with loads of 600 ohms and up.
It does sound like a serious problem and isn't normal, but from the info you've given, it doesn't have anything to do with the impedance of the headphones. Try some different setups if possible to find the source of the problem..different headphones with the Firebox, different amp for the headphones, etc.

Hey guys, thanks for help...
I will try some diferent setups...
But the big problem is the loudness energy...to hear the loudness i need to push the phones in my ears...
Thanks

Don't push them in your ears.
So you're saying that if you turn the volume all the way up on the Firebox, it's still quiet?
Do you have them plugged into the headphone out or did you plug them into a line out on the back? Stupid question, but I can't imagine why they would still be very quiet with the volume turned up.

Hi Kane!
I use the headphones on phones output..
The level is not the problem...at volume 1 or 2 (1-10) I have a good level sound..the problem is the loudness freqs...I canīt hear the low freqs...
I read the same problem with Firebox phones output..maybe the problem is the phones output..that canīt be able to work with hi impedance phones...
thanks for attention

I think that with high impedance headphones you need a mixer or an headphones amplifier..bye ! |

You don't necessarily need a mixer or a headphone amp. You already have a headphone amp in your Firebox.
I don't think you understand what high impedance actually means, and I don't know why you keep bringing it up. The fact that they're high impedance just means more voltage (but less current) is required to drive them to a normal listening level than lower impedance headphones would require.
If you can hear them at a normal listening level with the Firebox's headphone volume control at 1-2/10, then their impedance is NOT the problem.
It isn't some kind of compatibility issue either. Headphones of any impedance can be driven by any headphone amp, it's just a question of how efficiently the amp can drive them.
If you're hearing distortion and low bass response, there's something wrong with the headphones or the Firebox. Try using a different pair of headphones with the headphone out on the Firebox. Try using the headphones with a different source. You can't blame anything for causing the problem until you've cut out some of the possibilities.

Hi Kane and all...
I am thinking the problem is the headphone...because with other headphones I donīt have any problems...
I will go to a store and try different setups...in a mixer output...with a headphone amplifier...in other soundcard... but just in the weekend..after this I post the result here..
Thanks for helping

Well if it is the headphones might it be an idea to change them rather than get a headphone amp? |
