I dont know if this is a hardware or software problem after the restart of the computer sound like normal again! I urgently need help in this instance! I maybe something with the ratings asio wrong? Or my drivers are not okay? Have everything uninstalled and reinstalled the problem is still there! I really do not know what more I have to do and I hope someone can help me! thanks a lot! |

could it be an problem with firewire?
at this time i dont think its an driver problem i update them third time! and i test every asio setting in ableton, also test asio4all! its still not working!
i would like to test the interface on a friends computer if its working so i know the interface is okay! would like to do this tomorrow! |

thanks Speakafreaka okay its not an typical error! if i start my system there are some clicks (sounds like switching an electronic hardware switch) in the hardware of the focusrite is this typical? a friend said normaly there is one click in the saffire at system boot!
if the problem is occuring i go to the soundcard menue in ableton and change the asio setting it would be okay! if the problem occures again i change the setting for asio latency again and its okay again! it doesent metter wich setting i go for every latency setting is working after i change it! so if i go from 10ms to 12ms its working if i go from 12ms to any ms its working any ms to any ms is working i just have to change the setting! |

When I switch my system on, my LE gives me one very audible click.
Multiple clicks does not sound good at all to me - I think you really should get in contact with focusrite and see if they can help you.

Hello Phasmatix, I use a Saffire LE with Ableton 6 and Cubase and it works very well.
Did you try to use an external adapter with your Saffire ? I've had a problem with my cheapo firewire adapter that was solved using an external adapter. The 6 pin firewire adapter didn't feed enough power to the Saffire.
As Speakafreaka said, try to increase the asio buffer size to see if it solves your problem.
It's a great sounding card (far better that my old m-audio 2496), thanks SpeakaFreaka by the way, I checked some posts you wrote about it before buying it . Still, every now and then I here some clicks playing music with Foobar2000, but I seldom here it.

I have the Saffire Pro 10 and i had exactly the same symptoms.
The problem was my pci firewire card and more specifically the chipset that was using. I had bought a firewire card with a NEC chipset as recommended by Focusrite. Basically, i bought the card for the Liquid Mix i was about to buy. Until that time my Saffire was connected to my mobo's firewire input working perfect(TI chipset).
Anyway, Liquid Mix never worked with the NEC chipset card. I switch and connect LM to mobo's firewire and Saffire to the card. Liquid Mix is working(being installed and recognized) but my Saffire crashes so i can't really listen how it sounds!!!
So, i change the firewire card and use another one with a VIA chipset and since then my Saffire works like charm. And because i thought as well that LM was defected, i got it back to the shop where i bought it and check it there and of course it was working perfectly. And then i get a new one to check out and still the same problems(all these before i figure out that it was the fw card). So, i return it and get a UAD card instead, and i couldn't be happier
I hope that in your case the hardware was defected and that the new will be ok.
But in case, that your new Saffire gives you the same problems, before you grab it and throw it out of the window just get a VIA or TI chipset fw card to check it, because maybe the other computer you checked it with maybe had an incompatible fw chipset as well.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |
