hello
we are just preparing our first liveact and we wonder now why our "mastered" music played via laptop (cubase project), connected to a channel on a pioneer djm 500 mixer, is not as loud as the music that is coming from the connected cd players (pioneer cdj 100).
the difference of the loudness is quite high, is this normal?
would be great to get some help
thx in advance

It merely depends on the output level of your laptop setup. Please check your soundcard's mixer settings.
A long shot would be to try the same input where the cdj goes in - wether the input you were using is somehow defected.

if it is only lower in volume than the music from the other cd player, just increase volume. if it is lower in volume (e.g. being bounced to a wav and premastered by you) than a cd played through your laptop, then you need to work on your premastering process.
all the best |

Exactly... my soundcard gives me the option to set it individually for each channel or has two presets called +4dBu (studio and pro use) and -10dbV (consumer audio level)... But I know of some lowcost devices that are only able to give you the -10 dBV lvl.
I tried to look up the lvl in the cdj100 datasheet, but they dont say much about it ... even though it really depends on its converters I would guess its got maybe more close to +4dBu.
Anyone know an exact value for this?

thx for your help
we have a emu 1616 soundcard, the outputs are at +4dbu, but still the level is too low.
probably the channel of the mixer was the problem, tomorrow i will try the inputs of the cd players hopefully it works this way...
thx again

| depends very much on soundcard power....Try rme fireface or motu...if u want sound...these have an addiotional switch 6 db more than pro level...full recomended for live set with good sound!!!
BUt as always with sound stuff....u get what u paid for!!! |
|
for shure a rme or motu card is a way better then a emu1616 system, especially the emu software mixer sucks but i dont think that the output level of the box is normal, because the line out of the pcmcia card is working.
fortunately i've still garanty so i will change it for a new one, coz i'm quite shure that something is damaged, either the box or the datacable...
thx for your opinions
cheers
