My friend has a Dell Vostro and my MOTU UltraLite worked fine on his 4pin FW connection.

I guess it's mostly about luck - doesn't have much to do with the hardware. hehe

I've been having major issues with an Nforce4 chipset with an AMD chip. The board I have has a couple PCI-E slots in it. I just ordered a card from SIIG which should arrive tommorrow. SIIG cards are posted up on multiple audio interface manufacturers websites (such as m-audio and presonus for example) as "the only recommended FW cards" to bypass problems with FW interfaces not functioning properly with a lot of onboard IEEE 1394 controllers.

So if you have to go with a card, go with SIIG.
I'll let you know tommorrow if it works out for me (even though it's a different setup than yours),
Good luck.

If you read in the link i posted, youll see that alot of people have problems with the SIIG cards and Intel motherboards/Dell computers..

Ahh, okay so they work well with AMD motherboards then
Thanx for the info           ~Airyck~

I has some issues where it couldn't install the
nic1394 drivers. I thought I needed a nic1394.inf file, but it turns out you need a

Net1394.inf file instead

Just in case someone runs into that problem I thought I'd add that, making this a more usefull thread in future searches.

I never bothered with that. I think it's for having network over FW and it's not needed for audio interfaces to work.
Just set it to inactive in the device manager.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
