Hi guys. I just recently reinstalled windows xp in my compaq presario. It is a P4, with 2.93 ghz, 1gb ram and two 160 gb hard drive.
This is the third time i reinstalled in the last week basically. Im using my new HD just for music.
The other one is for miscellaneous. Everytime happens a problem, first kontakt doesnt work, then FM-8 doenst find the library,Ni massive can not find the library either.
I also copy/pasted URS compressors into logic's vstplugin folder and sometimes in the insert button at logics enviroment channel mixer the URS folder appears and sometimes it doesn't.sometimes only the mono link Fx appears sometimes only the stereos Fx.. Im getting really frustrated here. When installing waves which vsts should i keep in the plugin enabler? im testing all them and etc.. but should i keep the mono ones, the s/w ones,??
the bottom of line is, is there an order to install the windows again, i mean first the updates, framework and etc then audio stuff?? Where does the Fm-8 and massive libraries are going too?
should i install the music stuff in my slave HD or in the built in HD??
Sorry if this was too long. But im loosing my mind here.
Thanks for the pacience.

in response to the lack of replies, your screwed...
i'm studying computers engeneering and i can say you can install windows in any order you want, i sont see the updates messing arround with your audio software.
But there is a problem: WINDOWS!!
my advice: the next time you reinstall everything dont install windows. use Linux.
the only prob about linux is the are programs (most of them) that only work on a windows platform.
BUT there are emulators that emulate windows, so you can open those type o programs on Linux.
Now you ask: if i do that, i'll be using my programs thru an emilator than thru linux. it seems a litlle slow..
But i can ensure you that doing it that way programs and games will work alot faster than just using windows.
For example, a game usually has the loading page. and it can take forever for it to load (in windows). but if you run it thru the emulator in linux you wont even see the loading page. its THAT fast.
Just try this and you will see the benefits. If you don't like it, install windows again.

I would always recommend installing Windows, then SP2, then framework etc before installing any audio applications. I don't know if it really makes any difference but it's always worked well for me doing it that way.
Also I've heard that some cracked versions of the recent NI plugins don't work properly.
I think your main problem though is that you're using an old version of Logic that isn't compatible with many recent plugins - the VST specification has changed a couple of times since 5.5.1 was released and some plugins just don't work properly in Logic on the PC now.
As far as which Waves plugins you should keep in the plugin enabler, you want all versons - mono, stereo and m/s - but only one copy of each. Although I'm an SX user I do know that sometimes duplicate copies of plugins show up in the plugin enabler, so you should make sure there's only one copy of everything.
Are both your HDs internal to the laptop? I would recommend installing all the software on the same drive that you install Windows on, and use the second HD just for your projects. This has often been recommended as the best way to keep your system running quickly when working on music.
Hope this helps

Definitely install all those plugins on the C: drive. There is a bug in the installer of the new NI stuff that a lot of people are using that occurs when installing to a D: drive or elsewhere. Of course, that installer wasn't written by Native Instruments...
Also, Linux is great and everything, but loading Linux and trying to run Logic through an emulator window is an overly complex solution to a problem that can't really be solved. Logic is just old outdated software, plugin compatibility problems are only going to get worse, not better. If you don't want to switch away from Logic, definitely start saving for a Mac.
As Colin was getting at, the only sound stuff you should have on other drives should be sound libraries and files. It's generally the safest bet to have core system stuff and plugins all together on the same drive. Keep things as simple as possible, a lot of code out there just assumes everything is on one drive.
You said you installed Windows 3 times... you aren't just reinstalling windows without reformatting are you?
Are you reinstalling Logic and every plugin each time? Because you will need to reinstall everything each time for everything to work unless the plugin is just a naked .dll file.
