hello,
my resolv 50a monitors have a nice flat freq-curve above 75hz, but under 75hz the curve is falling down. sometimes i realy have problems to mix the deep low because of that. i dont have the money for a new system or subwoofer until the next month, but i realy want to create music until my budget is filled again.
i had the idea to compensate the frequency hole of about 20 db under 75hz with a sub-boosting eq on the main-out at around 40 hz. this boost is only for monitoring, not for real-audio-exporting so that my ears can have better controll on the deep low-frequences.
i just want to ask you if this kind of monitoring aid is a complety stupid idea or do you think this will make sense, in theory it would help, doesnt it?
thx in advance! |

ok, forget about that. I just put my actual ones on ebay. (I cant mix on them anymore when i think they will be exchanged in a few weeks anyway)
I have a budget for complete new monitors of 600 EUR. any good ideas what to buy in this price-range?

i have just gotten alesis m1 actvie, very pleased about them, but u need to get to know the bassresponse good on them. Ticon used them some years i know, and they are @ around 300 Euro.
i also just saw the yamaha hs50m/hs80m wich is a new version of NS10, and hey say, if your mix sounds good on these, it will everywhere
Dynaudio maybe?
or maybe go for the new tannoy reveal series?

@alex
yeah, i now the sound of the NS10, they sound amazingly flat and amazingly boring, not my taste.
about dynaudio, oh yeah BM5 looks fine and reachable.
@orange
i wouldnt agree that anything under 1000€ is not good. i have seen enough artists mixing crisp mixes on low-budget monitor-systems.
but on the other site the level of production has realy changed the last few years. especially in fullon, the niveau of mixing is very high compared to other styles of electronic music (which doesnt means this makes the music better). it seems like the good old days of low-budget home studio are flowing away more and more.

I wouldn't go for the 8020...
but as for other monitors, I lost count of how many times we had discussions about 'which monitors to buy' here... Please please use the search.

BM5p or BM5a are great for the price, I know several people who use them in the studio and get great results, they not only sound good but are very representative....
I also thought it was hype until i used them for a few weeks and my mixes improved alot...

ok got the dynaudio bm5a today.
i have expected 2 flagships drawing incredible sound into the air like gods voice itself. so i put some released stuff into them from my favourite artists (midimiliz, andre absolut, tiefschwartz) and some stuff to check up the sound on different stuff like electric universe. the hype was an illusion, they remind ne NS10, which sound very flat and not very inspiring. my favourite trax even sounded just "normal" about some tunes i wondered how bad some elements where mixed.
you may think i am dissappointed i will tell you, i am not.
... i put in my tunes. on my earlier resolv50a monitors they sounded as good as my favourite stuff i have on cd. but on this dynaudios some mixes broke apart heavily, some mixes could stand. i was amazed how many mistakes i was able to hear, some mixes even seems to have no real hitting highs.
i noticed another interesting thing i have never recognized: on all tunes it seemed like the highs (specially hihats) are balanced more to the right. i was realy wondering, because you just cant set the bma5 out of balance, even the soundcard was configurated correct. so why are the hihats a little right? i turned my chair 180° and expected to hear now the hihats a little left. no, they where on right, again!
this can only mean that my ears have a little frequency disbalance in the highs, my left ear is a bit damaged in the highs. i never noticed nowhere before! never! i only remembered a test at the german navy made for many years where the doc told me i have a little disbalance in the spectrum. what kind of amazing monitors. like frequency-micorscopes.
i started to produce.
mixing felt pretty easy, you notice many things. they have a nice deepness and very good stereo-field. i noticed many little distortions in my samples and where able to avoid them in the mix very good. damn the next mixes will kick away everything, this for sure.
