In some of my sample folders I noticed how the amount of minutes and / or amount of bars and / or bpm has already been set. When importing... let's say a voice sample that originally is 3 seconds long into a 145 bpm track, cubase automaticly time-stretches the sample into a 0.2 seconds sample, which sounds like somebody fastforwarding a tape.. If than I time-stretch it back to 3 seconds, the voice still sounds like a smurf and nothing can be done with it.. Is there an option in cubase that allows importing without automatical stretching??

Dunno how it works in cubase, but i've had the same thing... When previewed it sounds okay, then when want to use it, it's pitched...

Sometimes i can fix it by getting that .wav into audacity or some other editor and exporting it again..

... sometimes..

Sounds like "Musical Mode" is on.

Double click the sample at the arrange. Go to the top right of the window, and uncheck the "Musical Mode" button. It's like a musical icon.

Hmmm... SMS, are you talking about Cubase here? Cause when I double click on the sample (and the wave opens), I do not see this 'musical mode' icon anywhere... Any more suggestions please?

Ok, I found it.. Upper right indeed, right click USE -> music control.. There's the musical mode icon you were talking about.. I guess this may help if you know the original bpm cause it's asking me for this.. But the sample I'm fighting with now does not say which bpm it has, only that it's 2.67 seconds.. But now is playing in 0.2 ((

+1 to Demoniac
Check the samplerate of the vocal sample, and compare it with the samplerate of your project. Sounds like the vocal sample was recorded at 8KHz or something similar, and sounds too fast because Cubase is playing back at 44.1KHz. If this is the case you need to convert the samplerate of the vocal sample; most audio editors eg. Wavelab or Sound Forge can do this, although you'll get best results from dedicated software.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Indeed!

Also check the preferences, cause Cubase can convert these files while importing. But as COlin said, youŽll get best results from dedicated software.           LOADING...
