I teach Piano, Guitar and Cubase in the Buckinghamshire area, your place or my studio.
I can be stretched to Reason if you really want to learn it.
I also do call-outs for computer repairs, build websites and do graphic design.
PM for any details |

Ok, so I'll start with the questions..
I started making music in FruityLoops. It has a great interface, powerfull, and the first thing you do is play sounds.. I've been on it for 6 years. I've tryed Cubase, but I had no results.. Just to make a bassline with a VST is a headache..
So how do you make "music" in cubase..
Say I have my drums as wav samples, bass is a VST as for most of the other sounds..
How do I assign a track to a sample, to a VST, set up effects on them, record and edit midi to be assigned to the VST.. I think you get the point.
It's not a "how to make music", but "how to use cubase"..

Well, reading the manual would be a good start.
Here's the 2 minute crash course..
Essentially there are 2 main track types in Cubase.
Midi and Audio
File > Import > Audio File will put your sample straight onto the arrange page on an audio track. (It will make a new track if you don't already have one, or will use an existing track if one is selected)
For midi, right click in the track list and "Add Midi Track" Set the left and right locators by holding Ctrl and Alt respectively and clicking in the bar counter.
Now double click somewhere between the locators on the midi track.
You've got a midi part, you can double click that to draw your notes in.
Press F11 to bring up the VST instruments list, pick one.
'Connect' the midi track to the instrument by changing the "Out:" to the name of the instrument. This can be found in the inspector, next to the midi track when it is selected.

But if you're comfortable with Fruity and have 6 years behind it and like your results. Why change? |

hehe I meant "Let's make this the topic where people looking for proper tuition can go to find people to teach them one-on-one", rather than "Let's make this the topic where people can ask for help on random production problems" - we've got the rest of the forum for that!
BTW I forgot to add, I can also teach Reason, Ableton Live, Melodyne, Sound Forge, Acid Pro, and Wavelab. And probably a few others I can't think of right now.

All you tutors out there, what is the minimum prerequisites you ask of your students so that they not waste your time and their money. Like should they have rudimentary sound design skills or solfege? Should they have read the cubase/sonar manual before beginng to ask how to chop up audio all psychedelic like? Should they have a computer period?
I'm an interested camper, although I hesistate out of shame since I have yet read every single source of info available on the net nor I have a twiddled every knob and preset on the only hardware synth I own, a G2 (you could spend a lifetime on that thing!) |
